So, I typed in the command prompt: 'net start MySQL', and it gave me this error message listed in the subject line. Anyone know how to alleviate this? I guess I backed up the necessary files first (data folder from mysql folder and the htdocs folder). Uninstall XAMPP. Check the xampp folder for any content that remains and delete everything. You may want to reboot afterwards, just in case. Then reinstall XAMPP. Copy the backed-up folders back to their respective places, and hopefully, mySql will work again in XAMPP. share|improve this answer answered Aug 9 '11 at 14:44 Giraldi 6,73431521 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote In my case it was enough to give full (absolute) paths to the xampp/mysql/bin/my.ini file. For example I changed basedir from "/xampp/mysql/" to: "E:/xampp/mysql/", and so on. share|improve this answer answered Oct 4 '11 at 13:48 boryn 1088 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote This or this might help you, if you're on windows According to the posts, uninstalling then

I could fix it: 1. stopping the MySQL service in services.msc and starting the MySQL 55 service Dirk Nice how all sites show the same solution, but nobody explains how to create a default my.ini file. This is why people hate open source software. You have a nice installer for MySQL, but it NEVER, EVER, installs correctly at once. You first need http://mydailytech.com/how-to-fix-mysql-error-1067/ to create a my.ini file yourself to get rid of the errors, and of course you need to figure out by youself how to do it. God, I hate MySQL. This is the 20+ time I install MySQL on a clean server, and I always try to use a proper directory, but it never ever works. vinodh This works . great Sanojoel Service successfully installed. but again the same error… its not working form me bluelurker Yeah it sucks when you don't find appropriate solutions . That error almost killed me. Later I realised that it was caused by enabling AWE memory[innodb_buffer_pool_awe_mem_mb] in mysql 5.0.server . After disabling it everything worked well.
