the following error: Could not connect to host 'hostname'. MySQL Error Nr. 1043 Bad handshake I have UPDATED the database mysql error code 1005 password as suggested using the OLD_PASSWORD() function. Still not able to establish a connection. Any suggestions? Thanks for your time, cb An answer to my own question. I have solved this problem mysql bad handshake which seems to be due to the way mysql 4.1.7 stores it's passwords. I used the mysql function OLD_PASSWORD to make mysql store it's passwords in the pre 4.1.x method. Basically the syntax is: mysql> UPDATE mysql.user SET Password = OLD_PASSWORD('newpwd') WHERE Host = > 'some_host' > AND User = 'some_user'; mysql> FLUSH PRIVILEGES; Now I seem to be able to connect. --ja On Wed,

Mysql Error 1064
ERROR 1006 (HY000): Can't create database 'test' (errno: 13) What does the MySQL error message mean? The MySQL Server (mysqld process) can, for whatever reason, NOT create a schema/database. Additional information you can get http://lists.mysql.com/gui-tools/1530 as follows: shell> perror 13 OS error code 13: Permission denied When does this MySQL error message happen? This MySQL error usually happens when the MySQL data directory (datadir) does not belong to the user under which the mysqld process runs. For example the data directory belongs to the user root and the mysqld process runs as user mysql. How to fix this MySQL error? If the MySQL data directory http://www.fromdual.com/mysql-error-codes-and-messages-1000-1049 does not belong to the user the mysqld process is running under, you can fix this for example as follows: shell> sudo su - shell> cd /var/lib shell> chown -R mysql:mysql mysql Alternatively you can start the mysqld process as follows: shell> bin/mysqld_safe --user=mysql or set the user accordingly in your my.cnf file. # my.cnf [mysqld] user = mysql Error: 1007 SQLSTATE: HY000 (ER_DB_CREATE_EXISTS) Message: Can't create database '%s'; database exists How does the MySQL error message look like? mysql> CREATE SCHEMA test; ERROR 1007 (HY000): Can't create database 'test'; database exists What does the MySQL error message mean? MySQL (the mysqld process) can, for whatever reason NOT create a schema/database. When does this MySQL error message happen? This MySQL error apears, as the error message states, when the database already exists. How to fix this MySQL error? You have 2 possiblities: Choose an other name for your new database / schema. Drop your old database / schema. Rename your old database / schema (we can provide you more information, how to do this). When attempting to connect, with and without a password, the client always responds with: ERROR 1043: Bad handshakeMySQL Bug:http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=61222The client cannot be upgraded, it is part of a complex system that is not easily updated. We found that mysql-server-5.5.11 still works perfectly, though. So lately the fix has just been to downgrade to 5.5.11. Unfortunately, it seems to have been removed from the repository. Is there anyway I could get access to the old 5.5.11 rpm's for mysql, mysql-server, and mysql-libs for both i386 and x86_64? 2 Reply by Remi 2011-05-31 19:15:49 Remi Administrateur Offline From: Champagne...
