The error states: "You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '..'','0',''..', '..'','','','','','','')' at line 2" The line is here: $savequery = "INSERT INTO search (title, description, url, keywords, type, mod_url, developer, v162, v164, v172) VALUES ('$name', '$desc', '$url', '$keywords', '$type', '$link', '$dev', '$v162', '$v164', '$v172')"; Also, here's the "run or die" variable for that query: $save = $dbsave->query($savequery) or die(mysqli_error($dbsave)); UPDATE: Because it has been requested, here's my variable sanitation: $name = mysql_real_escape_string($name); $desc = mysql_real_escape_string($desc); $url = mysql_real_escape_string($url); $keywords = mysql_real_escape_string($keywords); $type = mysql_real_escape_string($type); $link = mysql_real_escape_string($link); $dev = mysql_real_escape_string($dev); $v162 = mysql_real_escape_string($v162); $v162 = mysql_real_escape_string($v164); $v162 = mysql_real_escape_string($v172); $id = mysqli_real_escape_string($id); php mysql share|improve this question edited Dec 21 '13 at 3:17 Anil Natha 2,34551835 asked Dec 21 '13 at 0:35 swiftsly 1461211 Yes, but did you bother sanitizing and encoding the data

Some cases have arisen where 255 characters isn't enough. I tried changing the field to a text, but I get the following error: BLOB/TEXT column 'message_id' used in key specification without a key length how can I fix this? edit: I should also point out this table has a composite primary key with multiple columns. mysql sql mysql-error-1170 share|improve this question edited Sep 12 '14 at 16:43 Spencer Wieczorek 13.2k41843 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1827063/mysql-error-key-specification-without-a-key-length asked Dec 1 '09 at 15:50 GSto 18.3k25104160 8 A table cannot have multiple primary keys. So The error mainly happen when there is a field/column type of TEXT or BLOB or those belongs to TEXT or BLOB types such as TINYBLOB, MEDIUMBLOB, LONGBLOB, TINYTEXT, MEDIUMTEXT, and LONGTEXT that you try to make as primary key or index. With full BLOB or TEXT without the length value, MySQL is unable to guarantee the uniqueness of the column as it’s of variable and dynamic size. So, when using BLOB or TEXT types as index, the value of N must be supplied so that MySQL can determine the key length. However, MySQL doesn’t support a key length limit on TEXT or BLOB. TEXT(88) simply won’t work. The error will also pop up when you try to convert a table column from non-TEXT and non-BLOB type such as VARCHAR and ENUM into TEXT or BLOB type, with the column already been defin
