However, it outputs an error message after finishing its run: Error: No data - zero rows fetched, selected, or processed How can I get rid of this error message? CREATE PROCEDURE `testing_proc`() READS SQL DATA BEGIN DECLARE done INT DEFAULT 0; DECLARE l_name VARCHAR(20); DECLARE my_cur CURSOR FOR SELECT name FROM customer_tbl; OPEN my_cur; my_cur_loop: LOOP FETCH my_cur INTO l_name; IF done = 1 THEN LEAVE my_cur_loop; END IF; INSERT INTO names_tbl VALUES(l_name); END LOOP http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3463283/how-to-get-rid-of-error-1329-no-data-zero-rows-fetched-selected-or-process my_cur_loop; CLOSE my_cur; END sql mysql stored-procedures share|improve this question edited Aug 8 '14 at 15:42 user212218 asked Aug 11 '10 at 22:15 Babibo 101113 Without details, I'll be the first to say - it could be replaced with INSERT INTO names_tbl SELECT name FROM CUSTOMER_TBL =) –OMG Ponies Aug 11 '10 at 22:21 Thanks OMG Ponies. In the actual code "INSERT INTO names_tbl VALUES(l_name);" should be replaced by 200 lines of code. I used this simplified version because I get the same error even for this simplified version. I am OK to output a varchar as the return value if it helps removing the error message. –Babibo Aug 11 '10 at 22:26 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 24 down vote I guess you just forgot to include the following line in your post: DECLARE CONTINUE HANDLER FOR NOT FOUND SET done = 1; Your code is correct, but bug/strange behaviour of mysql causes the warning to appear even if it was handled. You can avoid that if you add a "dummy" statement to the end of your procedure that invovles a table and is successful, this will clear the warning. (See http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/show-warnings.html) In your case: SELECT name INTO l_name FROM customer_tbl LIMIT 1; after the end of the loop. On MySQL 5.5.13 the warning disappears, on Linux and Windows. I commented on MySQL Bug 60840 and I hope they will fi

If you are serious aboutbuilding the web-based database applications of the future, you need toget up to speed quickly on how stored procedures work -- and how tobuild them the right way. This book, destined to be the bible of storedprocedure development, is a resource that no real MySQL programmer canafford to do without. In the decade since MySQL burst on the scene, it has become thedominant open source database, with capabilities and performancerivaling those of commercial RDBMS offerings like Oracle and SQLServer. Along with Linux and PHP, MySQL is at the heart of millions ofapplications. And now, with support for stored procedures, functions, and triggers in MySQL 5.0, MySQL offers the programming power neededfor true enterprise use. MySQL's new procedural language has a stra
