Is caused by a network fault or a remote connection being dropped. Once Access realises this you get this error which cannot be backed out of. The solution - ensure the quality of the connection is improved - or change the remoyte connection to one where the use a front end at the end where the back end resides and use something like Remote Desktop, terminal services or Citrix. Kelvin 0 LVL 4 Overall: Level 4 Message Expert Comment by:technicasolutions2009-11-18 sounds to me as if they have a slightly dodgy connection with short intermittent disconnects. Access used in this manner is not robust. You have three choices: 1. upgrade to a client server model using SQL server as the engine and keeping Access as the front end 2. use a terminal server so that users are connected to the database locally and only connected to the terminal server remotely

Hello again. Recently I have been getting the message 'Disk or network error' when trying to open up a http://blog.centresource.com/2005/11/14/ms-access-error-disk-or-network-error/ database. The database with the forms is located on my hard drive while the main database with tables are located on the network 'K' drive. After I got the message I checked to see if the drive was down and I network error didn't have problem opening and looking at stuff. What are the main reasons for this error? Could be occur if someone is using the database at the same time? Or is this just an issue with the directory that is holding the database. Also, from my experience, it's best to map out to the full path name of the drive instead of the "Drive Letter" shortcut. I'm sure others will have additional ideas. __________________ "I know what you're t'inkin', ma petite. Now I don't have a problem getting in and I didn't change anything. Although a number of people using the application was having problems getting in as well. Someone had locked it up but I am not sure who. I am not sure if the locking occured because of the 'Disk or network error' or because someone exit the application wrong or something else. Eventually I got the LDB taken care of by telling everyone to get out. My DBA skills really stink sometimes. hammerva View Public Profile Find More Posts by hammerva 04-02-2003, 08:01 AM #4 jfgambit Kinetic Card Dealer Join Date: Jul 2002 Location: Sunnyvale, CA Posts: 798 Thanks: 0 Thanked 1 Time in 1 Post This may help... Nicholas Holland on November 14, 2005 One of our clients called and reported an issue with a MS Access database. The user was able to open a network based .mdb file, but when they tried to click on a switchboard button they received the following error message: "Disk or network error." There are many resources that deal with this error, but none of them provided the needed solution. The TMP/TEMP directories were set properly, the JET Engine was updated, and the .mdb file was not corrupted (verified on another computer). Through basic troubleshooting, we determined that this .mdb file had many ‘Linked' tables that were using a static network path mapped through drive E:.
