ring locked. When I put it on the camera the display shows 'fEE', which is supposed to be "Lens aperture ring is not set to minimum aperture" (which, it is). The DX 35mm lens https://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2605/~/what-does-the-fee-or-f---error-message-displayed-on-an-slr-camera-mean%3F works fine.I also have a d90 body- and the 50mm lens works fine on that, as-is. I don't have any other "D" lenses laying around.Any other ideas? How does this setting get communicated to the camera for a D lens? is it electronic, or mechanical? Nothing LOOKS wrong in the camera lens mount area. The firmware has been updated to 1.01, and that didn't help.Thanks,-jamie Reply to thread Reply https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/2959034 with quote Complain Rod Phifer • Forum Member • Posts: 97 Re: fEE Error on nikon d7000, aperture ring is already locked In reply to jamiesmithnc • Feb 19, 2011 Have you tried cleaning the metal contacts on the lenses with a cloth? Perhaps it is not quite set properly where it is.Also . . . wipe all metal contacts with a soft cloth . . . the new camera will be shipped with a protective coating on the metal contacts and their may be some film residue there preventing proper contact.Regards, Van Griff Van Griff's gear list:Van Griff's gear list Nikon D700 Nikon D70

When I have the aperture setting on the lens to 22 I can take photos. But when I change the dial to anything other than 22(lowest f/stop) then I get a flashing fEE fee error on message and r09 where the number of exposure left is. I don't have the manual for this lens but am just wondering if anyone knows what the issue is here. Newer SLRs and DSLR control aperture via the body, so these older lenses must be stopped all the way down in order to be used. Your lens is working as it should, and is not defective. To select aperture using your camera, ensure the aperture ring is set at 22 and shoot in either aperture (A) priority or manual and use the command dial and LCD screen to select the aperture you desire. share|imp

This is different than the 'G' series which do not have that and are completely electronically controlled. On mechanical cameras, the f/stop is set from the lens itself. You adjust the f/stop on the lens, and then when you shoot the photo, the body closes the aperture to the appropriate setting on the lens. This is done mechanically. With a camera that doesn't have the capability to use the mechanical nature of the lens (the higher end professional bodies do and can use AI lenses with some restrictions), the lens needs to be set in its most stopped down position to work. This allows the lens to be
