There is a small switch contact held on by a small plastic rivet in the Aperture Control Unit that tells the electronics module in the camera what phase the camera is in during its cocking cycle. When that small plastic rivet breaks, the camera can't determine where it is in the cycle and just stops and displays the "err" message. There are 2 ways of fixing the problem, replacing
Faust, Alberts Can others edit my Photos: Photos OK to edit A newbie with a question. When I turn on my D90 I get an Error in the top view screen and the camera is inoperable. Previously I removed the battery and powered up again and the issue http://www.thephotoforum.com/threads/d90-error-message.263615/ would go away, now the camera will not work. Help! Like I said, it depends on what your specific error code is. If you don't have the manual, you can download it here: Nikon Product Manuals available for download Only some of Nikon's error codes, not most of them, are cause by dirty lens to camera contacts. Dirty lens to camera contact errors are more common to Canon cameras. Nov 22, 2011 #4 nikon d90 err ttdash TPF Noob! You can clean the contacts with just about any lint free cloth. A white t-shirt works fine. Nov 22, 2011 #6 chaosrealm93 TPF Noob! However, before you become too frustrated, take a deep breath. The advantage of an error message is that your camera is giving you clues as to the problem, which is better than no error message -- and no clues -- at all.The eight tips listed here should help you troubleshoot your Nikon DSLR camera error messages. ERR error message. If you see "ERR" on your LCD or electronic viewfinder, you likely have experienced one of three problems. First, the shutter button may not have depressed properly. Second, the camera could not capture the image using your manual exposure settings; try changing the settings or using automatic settings. Third, the Nikon camera may have experienced a start-up error. Remove the battery and memory card for at least 15 minutes and try turning on the camera again.F-- error message. Most of the time, this error message is limited to Nikon DSLR cameras, because it's related to a lens error. Specifically, the F-- error message indicates the lens and camera are not communicating. Check the lens to ensure it's locked into place. If you cannot make this particular lens work, try a different lens to see whether the F-- error message continues. You'll then know whether the problem is with the original lens or the camera. FEE error message. The FEE error message on a Nikon DSLR camera indicates that the camera cannot shoot the photo at the aperture you've selected. Turn the manual aperture ring to the highest number, which should fix the error message. You may need to allow the camera to automatically choose the aperture to shoot the photo at the proper exposure. "Information" icon error message. If you see an "i" in a circle, that is an error message that indicates one of three likely errors. First, the battery may be exhausted;
