» Report Abuse Judge it! Jeffrey Adkins United States #2 Jun 10, 2007 My '99 Dakota (5.2L V8) just developed the same problem, and I've been unable to figure it out. The local dealership basically told me that they would just start replacing parts until they found the problem. Did you ever figure this one out? If so, please drop me a line...Jeffrey M. UDM Columbia, MO #5 Oct 19, 2007 The "NO BUS" points to PCM communication failure. Disconnect the battery negative then unplug and plug back in the PCM connectors. Reconnect battery and run engine. Try pulling DTCs with a code scanner. If the PCM won't communicate, it's probably fried. I just put a reman PCM on my '02 (DTC P0601- internal controller failure) Bought it from ecudirect.com @$400. Installed it in about a half hour. Judged: 9 5 Reply » Report Abuse Judge it! UDM Columbia, MO #6 Nov 11, 2007 I just found this on another site. It appears t

Interesting note...I pulled the positive battery cable to do http://www.dodgedakota.net/boards/v8/6191.html some fuse checks, and when I put it back on about 20 minutes later, everything was almost ( repeat almost ) back to normal. Now only the airbag light stays on during driving, the passenger airbag "off" light wont come on when it's switched off, and the stereo seems to power up for a minute or two every now and then go completely dead. The guy I got the truck from said he recently pulled the stereo to replace it, but put it back when he decided to sell the truck. Could he have screwed something up in that process??? Thanks for the help!!!! ticatsDodge DakotaJOIN HERE5/14/200406:41:43 RE: IP: Logged Message:A good possibility. I put down that checklist because sometimes there is electromagnetic interference (e.g. from an aftermarket stereo, a hipo cb, etc.) with a certain bandwidth that will cause the Central Timer Module to malfunction. The CTM send the signals to the dash pod unit via the CCD bus that are needed for the gauges to operate. It sounds like the problem may still be stereo related. When you disconnected the positive cable it unlock the CTM. Interestingly I had read that disconnecting the negative cable might or might not unlock the CTM. Glad to hear it's almost back to norm :-) IzzyDodge DakotaJOIN HERE5/14/200408:22:16 pulled th

In the odometer it will say "no bus" but that is all and i dont have the owners no bus manual anymore so i have know idea what it means i think it might be the fuel pump but there exspensive and i want to have more than a girly hunch thats what it is before i try to get another pump if you have any idea please let me know thanks, leslie Top Top Autotech1971 Posts: 13 Joined: Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:09 pm Quote Postby Autotech1971 » Thu Jul 13, 2006 8:16 pm Hi Leslie I looked in my repair information and found this, dodge dakota no there seems to be alot of testing.... Gauges are inoperative. No BUS message displayed on odometer. System: Body/Chassis Electrical, Emissions/PCM/Fuel, Engine Electrical Codes: N/A Problem 1 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor. Test & Fix: If the 5v power supply circuit is shorted to ground, the CCD bus is unable to transmit messages and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) appears to be "dead". The PCM is not damaged when the 5v power supply gets shorted to ground, but does need to be reset by turning the key off for 10 second after the short is removed. Using a DVOM or labscope, measure the voltage on the 5v reference wire at the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) or Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. If 5v is not present, unplug the Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor. Turn the key off for 10 seconds. Turn the key on and measure the voltage on the 5v power supply circuit. If the voltage is now 5v, replace the CKP sensor. Problem 2 of 6: The 5v power supply from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is shorted due to a shorted Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor.
