have a Dell Optiplex 745 brought in for "repair". The customer says he purchased the computer from "some guy"

and has not been able to use it.Managed to clear the CMOS password, then discovered that the two WD800JD's were password-protected. I've never been in this situation before, and do not know what to do.I've done some reading. One idea that interested me was to "reflash" the firmware with the idea that whatever password is on the HD's would be erased. Booted my desktop with a floppy DOS disk and ran WD's "wdcha059.exe". It said the "update" was not applicable to the WD800JD I had installed as secondary.This is only a $50.00 repair, so I do not want to purchase software or hardware. I'm doing it for the learning experience more than anything else.What should I do ? What do I need to know ? It confirmed that the drive had an ATA password and that the security level? was "high".Tried the Master Password "wdcwdc..." (etc...) in both lowercase and uppercase with "fail" as a result.MDHD lets you enter more than the 32 character maximum, which makes me wonder exactly how many characters the Western Digital Master Password is. Can anyone confirm that it is exactly 32 characters long ?Also, I recall reading a post that mentioned a software that allows you to verify if the Master Password has been changed from the Factory Default, but can't find that post again.Finally, I read a post that said the easiest way to get a functioning HD in th

I managed to load config magic and copied the locking code to paper.I backed up the eeprom then locked the drive. I think it was here I did an FTP backup. When I rebooted I got the "Xbox needs service"... no drq Oh crap! back to the pc to try to fix it... so I booted to the xboxhdm floppy. I had a hard time trying to get it so the xbox would read it again and in the process I tried a different drive. I used xboxhdm to format it and ndure to load the files then tried to lock it with the locking code I had copied but it too would not work in the xbox. Using unlockx I was able to error no drq fix the locking on the first drive and all was good again.except now I had an 80gb almost xbox drive. I discovered that this drive had a different locking code when I managed to get the eeprom.bin file on the floppy and chose 6 from xboxhdm menu. I used unlockx and locked the drive and it too now worked in the xbox. YEAH!Ok which files do I want??? I need a newer version of unleashx to upgrade unleashx. I want the the latest and greatest XBMC. So I used the Auto installer deluxe and put a bunch of crap on the drive. some good, some useless... So I unlock, reformat, reload, lock, back and forth. Somehow my C partition got completely full loading ndure. I don't know how but I had to start over again. Not much was on the drive by this time.(Here is the problem)I made more changes to the unlocked drive. locked it again while booted to the cd. The Xbox won't unlock it. unlockx won't unlock it. I must have Mis-Keyed while locking with that phuckn long as$ number.Oh! unlockx stopped counting at 5 attempts to unlock it.Is there anything I can do now?tootallofwa.
