STILL I'm not allowed to set the option. Can anyone make sense of this? XAMPP loads some additional configuration files located in XAMPP/etc/extra/ that override httpd.conf. For me the offending file is http-userdir.conf which applies rules for ~user requests and contains the line AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit Indexes and changing that line to AllowOverride All did indeed solve my issue. This only applies to files served from your /Sites/ directory on OS X. I don't know if the Windows version uses UserDir at all or even has a similar rule. share|improve this answer edited May 18 '13 at 21:10 Louis 2,43711735 answered Oct 18 '11 at 5:04 Eli Huebert 21126 In addition, you can read httpd.apache.org/docs/current/es/mod/core.html#allowoverride too. That doc may help you to define specific values of AllowOverride ;) –kaleemsagard Mar 26 '14 at 23:04 This was helpful in conjunction with this answer. –Stephen Niedzielski Nov 23 '14 at 20:40 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote in my case I end up with change the line AllowOverride Aut

So that I can test it http://drupal.stackexchange.com/questions/86993/htaccess-options-not-allowed-here while my current site is still running. When I go to the directory www.mysite.com/drupal_test. I got this error: **Internal Server Error** The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@localhost and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error. More information about this error may be available in the server error log. Apache/2.2.16 (Debian) Server at www.bromptontech.com Port 80 I used putty command line to access the error log on the server and I got errors like this: /var/www/drupal_test/.htaccess:Options not allowed here I searched around and it seems something to do with the Allow Override settings, some say it is in httpd.conf, but I can't find this file anywhere, I can only find relevant code here in /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/000-default, I can see the tags. Apache 1.3.29 PHP 4.3.10 (cgi-fcgi) This ISP uses virtual hosting, and I've made the changes to the relevant config file to not allowed enable php for the site domain. Apache is not compiled with mod_php, but php runs via fastcgi. If I remove the .htaccess file I get the Drupal "Unable to connect to database server message," although the confusing thing there is that it references the local hostname rather than the db host I entered in settings.php Any advice appreciated. Anyway, that error you get by removing .htaccess is bizarre. Removing .htaccess shouldn't make any difference to database settings. The only thing I can think of is that database error was always there, and you didn't see it because Apache complained first. Recheck your settings.php and make sure you weren't editing a commented out line or anything like that. If that wasn't the case, do you use multisite? It might be that removing .htaccess rewrite rules somehow affects the site name or directory used to access Drupal and your multisite directory name no longer applies and Drupal is falling back to the default site directory. -- AntonNew to Drupal? | Forum posting tips | Troubleshooting FAQ Log in or regist
