The PC resets back to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/913502 the BIOS screen and the cycle endlessly repeats. It will not let me load in safe mode. I have tapped F2 on the BIOS screen and altered the primary drive to CD. I have then attempted to load with the windows XP disk. I can hear the CD drive firing up but on the following screen when it reads 'press any key to boot from CD', https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-autochk-not-found-skipping-autocheck-please-help.969875/ I tap a key but the system will not read from CD and continues the endless error page/reboot cycle. (the computer must be reading the keyboard as it is letting me scroll around the BIOS menu so this has me baffled) Does anybody have any ideas? From what ive read of other people with the similar problem they have been able to cure this with the recovery console from the XP disk but this isn't an option for me. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Probably something very obvious but I'm not exactly the worlds best computer technician Its an old machine that has no data on we are bothered about losing if thats inevitable. (very occasionally when the machine is switched on we are getting the 'windows didnt shut down properly........message'. White text on a black background. The bottom of the screen offers several options includng boot in safe mode, boot with last known configuration that worked and boot in normal mode amongst other options'. The cursors or enter keys do not work however and after a 25 second countdown it disappears and starts the error process again) DPWFC, Dec 21, 2010 #1 Sponsor

I only have access to the BIOS right now. I've tried to repair XP by booting up with the original disk, but that didn't work. I have another partition running XP that I do have access to, if that can help me somehow. But I have no access to the first (my main) partition.. I've Googled this error and read a number of forum links, but most of them just suggest using windows repair.. or it trails off to some other issue. Now... I have used Partition Magic on this computer, and I did read a comment somehwere that said uninstalling Partition Magic could help get rid of that screen. But how do I uninstall a program on an operating system that I don't have access too?? And even if I get access to the folder in DOS, I can't just *delete* the program folder.. it needs to be properly uninstalled. What do I do? Mar 31, 2006 #1 phviv TS Rookie I am having the same problem.. Please help Oct

Page 1 of 10 1 ← 2 3 4 5 6 → 10 Next > Al_Q Messages: 46 Both Boot camp and Parallels had been running well for ages. Upgraded Parallels to 5600 and boot camp to 2.1 in preparation for installing XP SP3. All still fine. Then installed Windows XP SP3 in Boot Camp with no problems. When I tried to start Parallels I got the dreaded message "autochk program not found - skipping autocheck". Parallels was stuck in an endless loop, restarting after a few seconds and getting this same message again. Paused parallels and did some internet searching. Discovered a thread in this forum which suggested going to the Advanced option in the Parallels drive configuration screen and removing all Parallels information from the Boot Camp partition. That could not be done with Parallels running so I ignored the dire warnings and forced the Parallels virtual machine to stop. Removed the Parallels info and YES it started up just fine, thinking that this was the first run of a new Parallels installation. Didn't even have to reinstall Parallels Tools in Windows. BUT I got a Microsoft message that because of a significant hardware change my copy of Windows needed to be activated, followed by nasty warnings from the Windows Genuine Advantage anti-piracy software. The good news is that when I chose online activation, it went smoothly taking only a few seconds, with no need to phone. If anyone else is about to upgrade Boot Camp to XP SP3 while running Boot Camp, I suggest removing the Parallels information BEFORE you first start the upgraded system in Parallels. I am attempting to remove parallels tools and rollback SP3 to see if that fixes it. I hope it does.
