sudo brew link You can use brew with sudo, but only if the brew executable is owned by root. However, this is both not recommended and completely unsupported so do so at your own risk. In another issue, "manually linking" Libevent was discussed as a possible solution, but I'm not sure whether I can do this without root access? Homebrew member MikeMcQuaid commented Jul 24, 2014 sudo chown -R $USER $(brew --prefix) jumprope commented Jul 24, 2014 Thanks very much, but sorry I'm a noob, would you mind telling me what exactly that does? Should I now revoke my current user's access to /usr/local for security's sake, or will that happen automatically? Homebrew member MikeMcQuaid commented Jul 24, 2014 No, it's fine as your current user should

You have to tell it where lib event is installed. I did a vanilla configure && make && sudo make https://github.com/Homebrew/legacy-homebrew/issues/31093 install and it seems to have ended up in /usr/local/, so: $ DIR="/usr/local/"
$ ./configure CFLAGS="-I$DIR/include" LDFLAGS="-L$DIR/lib"

I solved the problem by the following way. 1 2 DIR="$HOME/local" ./configure --prefix=$DIR CFLAGS="-I$DIR/include" LDFLAGS="-L$DIR/lib" Since I install libevent with the option, “–prefix=$HOME/local”.
