vaio1 ISPConfig Developer ISPConfig Developer Hi guys, we have found a strange behavior of the domain: mydomain.com. This domain receives all the email from the most important mail services but none from gmail.com This email was sent by the server where host or domain name not found it has been registered. Code: The mail system <[emailprotected]>: Host or domain name not found. mail.google.com’s server dns address could not be found. Name service error for name=mydomain.com type=A: Host not found If I send an email from gmail.com I get this error: Code: *DNS Error: domain not found Domain name not found The strange thing is that the mail server receive correctly the email from other mail services like yahoo.com and other. Any idea? vaio1, May 15, 2012 #1 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer Did http://productforums.google.com/d/topic/gmail/ggPPzjbfAgY you check your domain on www.intodns.com ? falko, May 16, 2012 #2 vaio1 ISPConfig Developer ISPConfig Developer Hi Falko, thanks for your reply. Do the nameservers that you use in /etc/resolv.conf resolve the domain correctly? falko, https://www.howtoforge.com/community/threads/mail-problem-dns-error-domain-name-not-found.57301/ May 17, 2012 #4 vaio1 ISPConfig Developer ISPConfig Developer Hi falko, yes the A record point directly to the right web server. In the webserver there is a mail domain with the name of the domain registered. Yes, the nameservers resolve correctly the domain. Thanks vaio1, May 17, 2012 #5 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer intodns shows this warning: Your SOA EXPIRE number is: 3600000. That is NOT OKClick to expand... I'm not sure, but maybe you should lower the expire - maybe this causes the problem. falko, May 18, 2012 #6 vaio1 ISPConfig Developer ISPConfig Developer How have I change the SOA expire time? thanks vaio1, May 18, 2012 #7 falko Super Moderator ISPConfig Developer Try 3600 instead. falko, May 19, 2012 #8 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) DNS Error: Domain name not found dborton @dborton 9 months, 2 weeks ago I have a WordPress site that is available only on my corporate intranet, not visible on the internet. Test messages from Postman SMTP are delivered fine. But notifications sent when posts https://wordpress.org/support/topic/dns-error-domain-name-not-found/ or forum comments are generated are not making it to any destination. I can https://www.quora.com/What-causes-Google-Apps-mail-to-bounce-with-a-DNS-error see the deliveries in the Postman SMTP Email log. But I get the following bounce messages: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: noreply@campfire.nmcounties.org Technical details of permanent failure: DNS Error: Address resolution of campfire.nmcounties.org. failed: Domain name not found It is true that from the point of view of the smtp.gmail.com servers on the internet, that campfire.nmcounties.org does not found not exist. Am I required to expose the WordPress server to the internet for Postman SMTP to work? https://wordpress.org/plugins/postman-smtp/ Viewing 2 replies - 1 through 2 (of 2 total) dborton @dborton 8 months, 4 weeks ago I am still struggling with this error, and am now working with Google tech support. They said to check with WP tech support, and that's what this here post is. dborton @dborton 8 months, 4 weeks ago In domain name not case it helps anybody who follows my trail, here is my conversation with Google tech support: Mary P 1:24 PM I understand you are having issues with a 3rd party plugin from WordPress. From what I understand this mail doesn't route through Google. ________________________________________ me 1:25 PM Yes. ________________________________________ Mary P 1:25 PM Have you tried contacting WordPress about this issue? ________________________________________ me 1:26 PM No, and given that it is a free plugin I don't know if I can get support. ________________________________________ Mary P 1:26 PM Okay but the plugin doesn't interact with Google Apps email in any way in regards to delivery. ________________________________________ me 1:27 PM I think it does though. Under the covers I think it uses googleapis.com. ________________________________________ Mary P 1:28 PM Okay but it is 3rd party and it isn't something that is really covered by our support. Allow me 2 to 5 minutes to see if there is anything I can find that may help you. ________________________________________ me 1:29 PM Thanks. Basically I need to know if a gmail client has to actually exist on the internet. It seems like Gmail is doing a DNS lookup of the sending host (campfire.nmcounties.org) which is not defined on the internet. ________________________________________ Mary P 1:34 PM Looks like you would need to have it on
