Also manually attaching the source for each dependency isn't practical, as in my case there are thousands of dependency

I'm new to eclipse\java so an explanation of why this is happening + how to resolve this would help a lot! java eclipse debugging share|improve this question asked May 30 '11 at 9:36 Jonathan 22.1k48163262 add a comment| 22 Answers 22 active oldest votes up vote 29 down vote accepted Eclipse debugging works with the class actually loaded by the program. The symptoms you describe sounds like the class in question was not found in the project, but in a distribution jar without debug info found before the project you are working with. This can happen for several reasons but have a look at the location where the classes showing this behaviour is found (look in the navigation pane to identify it). You will most likely need to change the build path of the project to avoid using this jar and have the JVM use the project instead. share|improve this answer edited May 31 '11 at 1:23 answered May 30 '11 at 18:08 Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen 50k15116244 hi thanks for all but i found this answer more usefull (stack over flow link)[stackoverflow.com/questions/5815013/… –shareef Aug 8 '12 at 12:16 8 @shareef that link is about missing javadoc, not missing source. –Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen Apr 11 '13 at 4:52 @ACV Well, yes. Perhaps it is not as elaborate as you would like - could you let me know what you would like to have explained better? &nd

I have previously searched the web for an explanation/solution to this problem, but found nothing of help to me. However, I've now figured out what is happening in my case: The error occurs when stepping through the code line by line, and then stepping out of http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14914187/why-does-the-eclipse-debugger-give-the-error-source-not-found-seemingly-withou a block of running code. I don't know the terminology, but I guess many applications might enter "standby mode" at some point, where none of its code is currently running. One example is a graphical application waiting for a mouse click. Stopping at a breakpoint in a MouseListener method, and then stepping out of it (into "standby mode") will cause the error in my case. I've supplied an MWE at the bottom of this question. The error occurs when I place a breakpoint at the line System.out.println("You clicked!"); and step out of the method line by line using F6 ("Step Over"). If I press F8 ("Resume") instead of F6 at the last line of the listener, the debugger doesn't crash and everything is fine. My question is: why does Eclipse do something so severe as to crash in this case? I understand that there is no line in the source code that the program control can be said to "step to" after leaving the listener in the below example, but why not just go into "standby mode" without complaining? Can I deactivate this error somehow, to prevent my debugging sessions from so frequently meeting their untimely end? Or do I just have to remember to press F8 instead of F6 when the latter would cause a crash? package app; import java.awt.Dimension; import java.awt.e

I just started using Java and Eclipse (Juno). While trying to debug a program I am getting a source not found error but when I https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1123616 press F3 I can view the source code for the offending line. This is an example line: SessionSettings settings = new SessionSettings(inputStream); It causes the "Source not found" error when I try step into it not found with F5. Yet SessionSettings.java exists and I can easily view the code. I must be missing something simple, but can't find what it is, despite a lot of searching. Yes, Eclipse is baffling source not found sometimes. Here's something to try. Right-click on your project, then click on Properties. In the Properties dialog, click on Java Build Path. In the Source tab, you should see the folder where your Java code is. If not, then add it. That may be the problem, but just in case, I'm going to move this thread to our IDE forum, where the real experts can take a crack at it. James Boswell Bartender Posts: 1051 5 I like... posted 4 years ago Sean When running in debug mode, right click on the running thread (in threads tab) and select Edit Source Lookup. At this point, you should be able to add the necessary project/jar which contains your source code. Sean Booysen Greenhorn Posts: 4 posted 4 years ago Thanks for the suggestions. I have looked at the Build Path and it seems to have the source code path linked. I say "seems" because this is an open source project I am trying to debug and the Project structure is quite complicated. If I try explicitly add the directory with the source code it causes all sorts of other errors, probably caused by conflicting sources? The project is the QuickFIXJ project, the Banzai example

There's a few fixes for this under Windows but I haven't been able to find anything for Ubuntu. I included a screen shot below. Eclipse obviously cannot step into source files that don't exist and that is what the error is indicating. If you do have the source code then you can configure it within Eclipse (perhaps press that 'Edit Source Lookup Path' button). As an aside, you really shouldn't need the Java sources as the problem typically exists with your code not the Java library code itself.
