More about : program found skipping autocheck vampm 3 January 2011 00:16:07 Also, the chkdsk always finds errors in the disk, and doesn't fix them. I considered to use fixmbr, but i am afraid to do it. Of course windows are working fine, but there are these problems... Saga Lout 3 January 2011 00:38:48 http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/254430-45-program-found-skipping-autocheck Use your XP CD to boot the system and go through the process until you see the Repair option. At the Command Prompt, type chkdsk /r (including the space) and the /r switch will seek out error and fix them while the system isn't live so you get a better quality check than that which runs in the GUI. It's a five stage process and may take some time. When you restart into XP, defragment the hard disk data just for good measure and use CCleaner from http://www.piriform.com to wipe the free space by ticking that option in the list of cleaning options. Again that will take quite a while in a large disk but it will give you a clean start. program not found Discussion in 'Software' started by Baxter Stockman, Feb 16, 2011. Baxter Stockman Private First Class When starting up the customer's PC. It http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/autochk-program-not-found.232939/ gives the error "Autochk program not found. Skipping autocheck" Windows XP Can't boot into Safe Mode. Things I've tried: 1. Chkdsk /r 2. PTEDIT.exe change type to "07" 3. Plugging Hard Drive into another computer and manually copying a different autochk.exe from C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 to C:\WINDOWS\System32 4. Check disk within Windows on my computer. I have access to everything on the drive. I've read many threads which not found have lead to the things that I've tried. Unfortunately what seems to solve it for others has not for me. Any ideas? Baxter Stockman, Feb 16, 2011 #1 DavidGP MajorGeeks Forum Administrator - Grand Pooh-Bah Staff Member Hi What XP Service Pack? What security software is installed? (antivirus, firewall etc) and doesnt matter which ones apart from would like to know for background, but uninstall autochk program not them all and run say CCleaner and do a cleaner and then a registry clean (run the registry one until nothing lists for removal) then reboot and see if XP loads. just wondering if an app is causing this, also try msconfig and untick all startups as well and see if you can boot ok. DavidGP, Feb 16, 2011 #2 Baxter Stockman Private First Class Well it won't boot. Not even into Safe Mode. So running ccleaner is out, as is stopping startup apps. I plugged it into my computer to find out the AV and Service Pack. Looks like it is Trend Micro Internet Security 12 Windows XP Service Pack 2 Baxter Stockman, Feb 16, 2011 #3 TimW MajorGeeks Administrator - Jedi Malware Expert Staff Member Have you gone into the Recovery console and done a fixboot?
