is real inhibiting. Following is why I need to do this. I am trying to recover from a case of laxity (stupidity) on my part. Our Windows SBS 2003 Server has been having Windows Updates problems (apparently involving .NET Framework). About a month ago we had the problem and I tried to fix it with the MS Fixit solution for cleaning up Windows Update and when the normal Fixit didn't work, I tried the "aggressive" fix. That caused a problem on kb912023 reboot and the IPSEC service would not start and the server had no network connectivity. Fortunately the server does a full windows backup every week so I restored Windows and all was well (except for the original problem). Unfortunately, I came back to the problem this weekend and tried again to fix the Windows Update problems we were having with .NET Framework updates. I didn't run the aggressive version of Fixit, but did run the MS Fixit for Windows Update normal mode and then installed some more updates. One required a reboot. I was working remotely and the system did not come online as it had with several reboots to that point. Since this was late on Saturday night I let it go and drove to the site this morning since the server is not used on the weekend. Same problem of failure to start IPSEC with an error message of "Could not start the IPSEC services on Local Computer" with "Error 1168: Element not found." I spent some time trying to figure out what was wrong this time before just doing a restore. Finally decided to restore the system. This is where the laxity (stupidity) comes in. I had forgotten when the backup is done, Sunday morning at 4:00 a.m. and it overwrote the backup from before this episode (another not so smart process). Anyway, now I am forced to find a solution to this. I have tried backing out the l

Today I rebooted the machine for maintanance but after the startup IPSEC service didn't start. When I tried to start the https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25081530/How-to-recover-from-IPSEC-start-failure-on-Win-server-2003.html service IPSEC service I got the error: The system cannot find the file specified. I found a nice howto that resolved my issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912023 In my registry I was unable to find the subkey HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\IPSec\Policy\Local I just registered the polstore.dll library and then I was able to start https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/eb2fe6ef-d366-4400-98fe-436baa539af2/ipsec-services-could-not-start?forum=winserversecurity the IPSEC service. My question is: who deleted the registry subkey? I had a small problem with my PC the other day, which is now sorted, during which I had a look at my Event Viewer and noticed that I had two errors listed for each time I used (started up) the PC, usually on a daily basis. These errors appear to go back several months as far as I can see so obviously can't be critcal in my case because I've not had any major or noticeable problems which I havn't been able to rectify. Trouble is that if something is 'there' I like to think it's working and I can't rest until is sorted. The two errors are:- Event 7023. IPSEC Services terminated with following error - The authentication service is unknown. Event 7000. The StarOpen service failed to start due to following error:- The system cannot find the file specified. I have no idea what these services are, or do, or even if they are related or two completely separate problems. They are set to start 'Automatically' which obviously they don't, and they will not start 'Manually'. Have tried 'Googling' the errors and it seems to be a fairly common problem but I got a bit confused with all the jargon and didn't really see much of a
