account only takes a few minutes. Join Now Hi, Hopefully someone can help with this without an OS reinstall... This is becoming a common problem on our network and I want to nip it in the bud. On some computers (all Windows 7) when I try to register a DNS address I get the "RCP server unavailable" message. I've googled this to death and cannot get to the bottom of it. Things to note: - I've ran all of the netsh commands I can find - I've ran the SFC tool (just for the hell of it..) http://superuser.com/questions/702924/rpc-is-unavailable-while-renewing-ip-address-or-connecting-to-broadband-over - The DHCP Client service IS running using the Local Service account - There is currently no DNS entry for the problem machines Any help anyone can offer in resolving this is greatly apprecieated. Went through the same steps and only solution so far is to rebuild the computer. 0 Sonora OP tony28 Mar 14, 2013 at 5:03 UTC I've ran msconfig with both Selective Startup (deselecting any non-ms services) and Normal Startup. It's using Normal Startup now and still giving the same error. Thanks for the advice Dennis. As this has happened to over 5 machines in the past 3 months I'm concerned that it will happen to more. A workaround is to reserve the IP and create a static DNS entry but that co
