The Windows Deployment Services Server Service Terminated With The Following Service Specific Error
Event log on the DP: An error occurred while trying wds service will not start to create the UDP endpoint for WDSPXE provider on interface x.x.x.x:67. This can happen if error information: 0xc1030104 the network interface was disabled or changed, or some other application is already using the port. The provider will not be able to receive requests on https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/954410 this interface. Error Information: 0x2740 This was because the DP was setup as a DHCP server and for WDS. Unfortunately WDSUTIL /set-server /UseDHCPPorts:No did not work. The fix was to perform the following registry change: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE Set the registry value to: UseDHCPPorts = 0 The service then started without any issues. Note: Another http://ajmckean.com/windows-deployment-services-service-will-not-start-error-0x2740/ thing to remember, is that if you are running your WDS server on your DHCP server, you will need to set the 060 option in your DHCP Server Options. From a command prompt run the following command:WDSUTIL /set-server /DHCPOption60:yes About AJ McKean Based in sunny Tauranga, New Zealand, AJ McKean is a Senior Systems Engineer in Mt Maunganui. Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I used to have a working WDS server running on Windows Server 2012 R2. A few days ago, I noticed the PXE boot was no longer working. I investigated and saw that the WDSServer service was stopped and wouldn't start again ("The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"). not start I troubleshot for several hours and eventually decided to rebuild the server. I just finished the rebuild and the new server has the exact same issue! It's hard to pinpoint what change caused this to break, since it isn't used very frequently. The most notable network change was setting up new DHCP servers (on separate servers in failover hot standby config). Options 66 and 67 weren't configured on the old DHCP, the windows deployment but I tried setting them on the new ones with no improvement. The new DHCP servers are pointing to a different domain and DNS servers than before, but the WDS server has always been on the new domain. From what I'm seeing, the problem definitely seems to be PXE related. I've tried removing the WDS role and re-adding it, as well as uninitializing and reinitializing with wdsutil. I've opened up ports on the WDS server for DHCP, TFTP, RPC, & multicasting with no luck. The WDS server is running as a virtual on a ESXi 5.5 host.
