(with 500 Gibi ) first installation attempt was breaking off (with win7 in 64Bit) should I try virtual-box (ubuntu 64Bit) with win7 in 32Bit ? should I leave RAM-size of virtual-box to default 512 MB ? thanks for reply virtualbox share|improve this question edited Nov 16 '12 at 10:10 Takkat 78.5k27197298 asked Nov 16 '12 at 9:58 dschinn1001 1,27011227 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted The most simple decision, that i found: enter into the folder /home/$user/.VirtualBox/ find there file VirtualBox.xml-prev, this is backed up the configurations of Virtual Box delete VirtualBox.xml and change name VirtualBox.xml-prev to VirtualBox.xml. share|improve this answer edited Jun 28 at 3:55 user.dz 23.6k952106 answered Nov 30 '12 at 8:41 Vladimir 661 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote Probably due to some updates. had to clean install - but before that, I got help moving my /home directory, so my original virtual box drive file remains https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/virtualbox-ose/+question/114633 intact. When I try to start virtual box I get an https://linuxacademy.com/community/posts/show/topic/3568-error-when-using-oracle-vm-virtualbox-manager error dialog pop that says: Failed to create the VirtualBox COM object. The application will now terminate. I'm running into a snag. When I try to power on the virtual machine, I get two error messages: "Failed to open a session for the virtual machine LINUXESSENTIALS_CENTOS7. The virtual machine 'LINUXESSENTIALS_CENTOS7' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). vDetails Result Code: NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005) Component: Machine Interface: IMachine {480cf695-2d8d-4256-9c7c-cce4184fa048}" and "RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912) The VirtualBox kernel modules do not match this version of VirtualBox. The installation of VirtualBox was apparently not successful. Executing '/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup' may correct this. Make sure that you do not mix the OSE version and the PUEL version of VirtualBox." I have run the "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup" (sans quotation marks) to no avail. Any ideas on how to work past this? Terrence C 07-23-2015 Is this a CentOS 7 installation on your local Linux system for use during the course exercises/videos? Have you ever started it successfully? It looks like you either upgraded your kernel after you installed virtualbox (which means your virtual kernel drivers need updating) or you have a mixed installation. Try rerunning the full install and letting it overwrite/update the drivers and then reboot and try again. Jerome M 07-28-2015 I had this same issue on my local Fedora box. I resolved the error by uninstalling Virtualbox and installing VIrtualbox-4.3 from the repository as well as Virtualbox-guest and everything works well now. David A 08-01-2015 Sorry for the late reply, thanks Terrence and Jerome, I got it up and running. :) Frank L 09-19-2015 Hi, I'm running into pretty much the same problem trying to go through the Linux Essentials course, I've followed the instructions in the video exactly and this is what comes up for me: https://www.dropbox.com/s/sv2uob6fxs3l458/Screenshot%20from%202015-09-19%2018-32-22.png?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/0l9uivurz191zi5/Screenshot%20from%202015-09-19%2018-32-31.png?dl=0 Failed to open
