Ntvdm.exe Has Stopped Working Started by Myth03 , Mar 28 2008 06:21 PM Please log in to reply 6 replies to this topic #1 Myth03 Myth03 Members 5 posts OFFLINE Gender:Male Local time:06:32 PM Posted 28 March 2008 - 06:21 PM I keep getting this error message "NTVDM.exe has stopped working" preceeded by a string of characters (something like the C:/~ command line (edit: The entire command line is "C:\PROGRA~1\svchost.exe) , that flashes (then disappears) and the only thing I am able to see is the "svchost.exe" This problem tends to come about when opening/closing IE, or many other day to day programs and sometimes comes up multiple times in a few minutes.... If you go to the link i posted it tells you what to do there, but i've had a quick read around about this and it says reboot and forget about it, only if you've tried to install an old 16bit program i:e an old 16bit game or something and if you want to play the game or still install the prohram/software then search further a field but otherwise forget about it, as the saying goes " if it ain't broken don't fix it " ! I succeeded with some and failed with others. The reason for the failure was that NTVDM.EXE "has stopped working." I tried to install those that failed of installation through the Compatibility Wizard but to no avail. Then I reformatted the drive and reinstalled Vista through recovery DVD's that I purchased from the manufacturer. The problem remained. I'm at an impass. The only thing I can think of is that a recovery DVD is defective. Would it be possible to find NTDVD.EXE on the Internet somewhere and download it? If so, I would have to know just where to put it. Otherwise, I will have to report this problem to the manufacturer and see what happens. I would appreciate some help with this one.
