Okay :|To answer your first question, I do not have Microsoft Word on my Mac. All other documents open without any problems when using AppleWorks. I should explain how the error occurred: I was typing that "problem" document when my laptop suddenly shut off on me. It wasn't out of power, I think I simply accidentally wiggled the place where the battery was. When I turned it back on and tried to open the document, it displayed the dreaded I/O Error message. In addition to this document I had other documents opened at the same time. When I reopened these documents, it asked if I wished to "Restore" the document, which I did and they were fine and functioning properly. This I/O Error has never occurred before. It means http://www.justanswer.com/mac-computers/2t4v9-open-appleworks-file-i-o-error.html that the files couldn't be read from the disc. I/O literally stands for Input/Output. I'm afraid this may mean the files are irretrievable. What kind of media were the files stored on? (Hard drive, floppy, flash, CD-R, etc) Ask Your Own Mac Question Customer: replied6 years ago. They were stored on files accessible via my hard drive -- i.e., together with other files that open easily. Expert: Pat replied6 years ago. You can try to run "Disk Utility" and do a http://www.justanswer.com/mac-computers/34pch-does-message-an-i-o-error-occurred-mean-how.html "Repair Disk" on that drive to see if the error is something that can be corrected. However, this could indicate a problem with your hard drive. Can you hear any audible clicks coming from the drive when you are trying to access this file? Ask Your Own Mac Question Customer: replied6 years ago. No audible clicks. It's one of five entries in the A/# XXXXX all of them responding in the "I/O" way. Expert: Pat replied6 years ago. What are the file names? Were these files originally created in OS X or on another computer? Ask Your Own Mac Question Customer: replied6 years ago. They are on Apple works 6. Some may have been created on an earlier laptop. Expert: Pat replied6 years ago. Can you give me an exact filename for one of them? Do the files you can't open share any other attribute, like a common character in their filename? Ask Your Own Mac Question Customer: replied6 years ago. Hello,I think I may be able to help you out. The error your receiving is fairly common with older AppleWorks and Claris Works files. It's very possible these files have become corrupted, and are no longer readable. In any case, you definitely want to move awa

Format your hard drive if you have a disc to install i o error the OS again and a key. Or defrag it at least every 2-3 weeks. Also CCleaner can remove heaps of old files and make your PC run smoother, when i first used it, it removed 10 GB of bloody potato. It used to be called bloody potato Cleaner Don't know if this helps, let me know
 Bob 3 Members 3 2,704 posts LocationLyon, France Posted January 29, 2009 Your hard disk is dying.
 Create an account or sign in to comment You need to be a member in order to leave a comment Create an account Sign up for a new account in our community.
