Object Expected Error In Internet Explorer

Join them; it only takes a minute: Sign up “Object expected” error using jQuery only in IE8 up vote 5 down vote favorite 1 I'm getting an error only in IE (v8, I don't know if it happens in older IE versions, but it object expected error in internet explorer 8 does not occur in Chrome or Firefox) which brings me the following message when I use IE dev tool's debbuger: Breaking on JSScript runtime error - Object Expected Here is my affected code: $('#deviceProfileSelection').change(function() { //affected line!!!! // rest of my code... }); This element #deviceProfileSelection is defined as the following: I've already tried defining the .change listener into a $(document).ready(function () {}); but no success at all. Any other idea? EDIT I was trying to include a div using a PHP decision structure, where if a condition was true, it should print a div. But, actually it wasn't printing, I mean, it wasn't printing the opening tag 'div', only the closing tag 'div'. The browsers could interpret this error, but IE8, and this IE inability was causing the issue. javascript jquery html internet-explorer internet-explorer-8 share|improve this question edited Aug 17 '15 at 16:36 asked Aug 2 '1

I've built my page and it works perfectly in chrome and IE 8 when I load the file from my computer. I've uploaded it to my intranet (sharepoint) and it just won't work in IE8 - works fine in object expected chrome but none of the options apepar - just the buttons. Any thoughts? helpchrisplz March 20, 2014 at 2:13 pm post your code? Sounds like a file is not being found because your URL file paths will have changed between your localhost and server, IE 8 is crap for any sort of error in the code. Newer browsers can handle small errors you might object expected error have made in the code… and still interpret / render the content - nodes. Do you have any errors showing in console when viewing the page in google chrome? press F12 and click console then reload the page, see what errors appear. Webezine March 21, 2014 at 3:47 am Thats what I thought but I copied the paths from the code and copied it into browser and it loads the files fine. The code is loaded and working as it's hiding some of the content that is shown when laoded and a button is clicked. The IE developer is only showing one error: Webpage error details Message: ‘Element' is undefined Line: 294 Char: 5 Code: 0 URI: https://spweb.skandia.co.uk/sites/thinktank/teams/Teams_Page/Pages/js/jquery.mixitup.js This is whats on line 294: Object.defineProperty(Element.prototype, ‘nextElementSibling',{ I've commented this out then a whole load more errors pop up with the html rather thatn JS but there isn't an issue!!
