This is why I always used Javascript when I could get away with it. –wcm Oct 1 '08 at 14:23 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 102 down vote accepted VBScript has no notion of throwing or catching exceptions, but the runtime provides a global Err object that contains the reuslts of the last operation performed. You have to explicitly check whether the Err.Number property is non-zero after each operation. On Error Resume Next DoStep1 If Err.Number <> 0 Then WScript.Echo "Error in DoStep1: " & Err.Description Err.Clear End If DoStep2 If Err.Number <> 0 Then WScript.Echo "Error in DoStop2:" & Err.Description Err.Clear End If 'If you no longer want to continue following an error after that block's completed, 'call this. On Error Goto 0 The "On Error Goto [label]" syntax is supported by Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), but VBScript doesn't support this language feature so you have to use On Error Resume Next as described above. share|improve this answer edited Oct 1 '08 at 14:36 answered Oct 1 '08 at 14:11 Dylan Beattie 33.2k2095154 9 :( ... Too bad I guess... –apandit Oct 1 '08 at 15:12 2 You could change WScript.Echo within the If statement to call a Function or Sub, which could in turn exit the application, log the error, etc. –StormPooper Mar 21 '13 at 15:08 "contains the reuslts of the last operat

Error Handling - on error goto Label? MCubitt (Programmer) (OP) 5 Nov 03 03:52 Within VBS, is it possible to provide my own error handling, such:..on error goto myerrorhandle..quitmyerrorhandle:if Err.Number=3 thenecho "Oh no, not good"elseecho "Not so bad, but not great."end ifquit RE: Error Handling - on error goto Label? tsuji (TechnicalUser) 5 Nov 03 04:55 Hello MCubitt,Vbs does not support On Error Goto Label directive. Instead, it is not difficult to implement the functionality. Something like this illustrate the idea.set fso=createobject("scripting.filesystemobject")on error resume nextset f=fso.opentextfile("nonexisting.txt")errcode=err.numbererr.clearselect case errcodecase 53call errorhandle_53'case etc...case else

Other Stuff How To Use On Error Resume Next Often when http://www.powerasp.net/content/new/on-error-resume-next.asp using ASP or Active Server Pages with VBScript you will find it necessary to check for errors when you do certain things that may fail and then handle it accordingly. Things like opening a database http://www.w3schools.com/asp/asp_ref_error.asp connection or writing to a text file come to mind. Generally if an error is encountered in your .asp file, the processing of your script stops and an error message is returned to the browser. If on error you want to continue processing your page even if an error is encountered, include the following line at the beginning of your .asp file: <% On Error Resume Next %> That being said just ignoring errors in your code is not a very good idea. What you really want to do is handle the error in some way. The example below opens a database connection and shows you how to trap a vbscript on error potential error and do whatever you want because of it. In this case we are simply displaying the error. <% ConnectionString = "DBQ=c:\inetpub\wwwroot\mysite\data\mydatabase.mdb;Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" '*** This code checks the ConnectionString info you entered and reports back the error code if it is not ok Err.Clear On Error Resume Next Set ConnPasswords = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") ConnPasswords.Open ConnectionString If Err.Number <> 0 Then Response.Write (Err.Description& "
") Response.Write("This means there is most likely a problem with the" & vbCrLf) Response.Write("""ConnectionString"" info that you specified.
" & vbCrLf) Response.End End If On Error GoTo 0 %> We put the "On Error GoTo 0 at the end because that will essentially end the "on error resume next" That is something you want to do so any later errors in your application do not get ignored without you knowing about it. Below is another example. In this example our application logs user info in a text file when they sign in to a site. We add "On Error Resume Next" here simply so no nasty error message come up if by chance write permissions to the text file do not exist. <% Set ObjMyFile = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") Err.Clear On Error Resume Next LogFileName = "aspprotect.log" LogFileDirectory = "c:\somedirectory" 'Open T
