Access Denied messages when creating database copies Discussion in 'Exchange Server Questions' started by paulbrown83, Feb 26, 2010. Previous Thread Next Thread Loading... 0/5, 0 votes paulbrown83 Guest I am getting Access Denied errors while doing https://forums.slipstick.com/threads/58264-access-denied-messages-when-creating-database-copies/ several things, so I know this is a larger problem than the specific case here. But I think once I fix it here, it will be fixed across the board. I have a database created on MBX1, and http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3494407/mssql-5access-is-denied-error-during-restoring-database it is mounted and running fine. I run the EMC on MBX1 and try to create a mailbox database copy, and I get this output: ----------- Summary: 1 item(s). 0 succeeded, 1 failed. Elapsed time: 00:00:57 DB1 operating system Failed Error: A server-side seed operation has failed. Error: An error occurred while running prerequisite checks. Error: A server-side seed operation has failed. Error: An error occurred while running prerequisite checks. Error: Service 'Microsoft Exchange Search' doesn't appear to be running on server 'MBX1'. Please verify that the server is operating, and that services can be queried remotely. [Database: DB1, Server: MBX2.domain.com] A server-side seed operation has failed. Error: An error occurred while running operating system error prerequisite checks. Error: Service 'Microsoft Exchange Search' doesn't appear to be running on server 'MBX1'. Please verify that the server is operating, and that services can be queried remotely. Cannot open msexchangesearch service on computer 'MBX1'. Access is denied Exchange Management Shell command attempted: Add-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity 'DB1' -MailboxServer 'MBX2' -ActivationPreference '2' Elapsed Time: 00:00:57 ---------------------------- The funny thing is that the database copy gets created and maintains a Healthy status. One other quirk I can tell y'all about is that when I Suspend the database copy that lives on MBX2, then try to Update it, I get pretty much the exact same error. However, I can resume the database just fine. These are some weird issues, and I'd love some input from the forum community. After that, I get this error: The operating system returned the error '5(Access is denied.)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'E:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA\XXXXXX.mdf'. You can use SQL Server Configuration Manager to find which account is used to run the SQL Server instance, and then make sure that account has full control over the .BAK file and the folder where the MDF will be restored to. share|improve this answer edited Feb 7 '13 at 16:14 Greg Bray 5,67353766 answered Aug 16 '10 at 15:07 SQLMenace 91.7k20148192 4 I changed to "Local Sytem", and it worked! –Seva Jul 17 '14 at 0:28 1 I added "NT Service\MSSQLSERVER" user to the list of "Group or user names" allowed to and it worked –slava Apr 18 at 7:07 add a comment| up vote 88 down vote I recently had this problem.
