I have recently rebuilt a Windows XP machine from scratch. I had some hardware issues and had to format and reload the OS. After I have reinstalled the OS and all applications and joined the machine to the domain, the machine does not want to update. Neither from my WSUS server nor from Windows Update website. It keeps failing with error 0x80004002. I have registered all the libraries needed for updates and made sure that BITS starts up automatically. here is a snippet of the client's windowsupdate.log file: 008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent *********** Agent: Initializing Windows Update Agent *********** 2008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent *********** Agent: Initializing global settings cache *********** 2008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent * WSUS server: http://fluxapp01:8530 2008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent * WSUS status server: http://fluxapp01:8530 2008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent * Target group: (Unassigned Computers) 2008-08-15 08:26:59:186 892 a3c Agent * Windows Update access disabled: No 2008-08-15 08:27:00:931 892 a3c DnldMgr Download manager restoring 0 downloads 2008-08-15 08:27:00:931 892 a3c Agent * Failed to load persisted download calls, error = 0x80004002 2008-08-15 08:27:02:519 892 a3c Agent WARNING: DeleteVolatileServices::GetServiceList failed with 0x80004002. 2008-08-15 08:27:04:108 892 a3c DnldMgr FATAL: DM:CAgentDownloadManager::RestoreDownloadJobs: GetSession failed with 0x80004002. 2008-08-15 08:27:04:108 892 a3c DnldMgr FATAL: DM:CAgentDownloadManager::DelayedInit: RestoreDownloadJobs failed
