Check that the printer operates by doing a self-test print using the buttons on the printer itself.2. Check that the cable is fine, Perhaps swap the cable if another is available.3.Repair Permissions using Disk Utility, found in Application/Utilities.4. With Printer Setup Utility closed Locate thecom.apple.print.PrintCenter.plistfound in ~/Library/Preferences and trash it.Open Printer Setup Utility, select add printer.5. Switch off, disconnect and unplug the cable of the printer. Locate the com.apple.print.HP6540.plist or similar namefound in ~/Library/Preferences and trash it.Reconnect the printer, switch on.Open Printer Setup Utility, select add printer.Message was edited by: roam Helpful (0) Reply opt

I have a HP Colour LaserJet 2500 Series attached to it by USB, and a http://www.antionline.com/showthread.php?266680-Mac-OS-X-quot-Error-While-Printing-quot-from-all-apps couple of days before, a standard (non-admin) account couldn't print. When I tried to, the APPLICATION said "Error while printing". A couple minutes of fiddling proved unsuccesful so I just put it over to the admin account and it worked. Days later, the error happened to me. It was really maddening. It seems that even Installer doesn't work now. I Googled around and found a couple of Mac forums had had these problems before but no solution. I repaired my disk permissions already and it still doesn't work. I don't recall updating my system before this problem occured. Something does work. If I drag the printer to my dock, some files do print when I open them with my printer. Here are my specs just to be safe: Mac OS X 10.3.9, 1.25 GHz PPC G4, 512 MB DDR SDRAM Thanks in advance, DCheng [Edit] I found http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107396 at Apple's support page and it pretty much matches my problem completely. When I follow the help, it still doesn't work. I even did what I should do for 10.2 in the CL

I've used Linux a lot too so I am pretty bold about mucking about in system files (but not for fun, only when necessary!). I don't know how this happened, but somehow my user account got into a state in which I was unable to use "Save to PDF" or Preview from the print dialog. This happened in all applications I tried. My user account is not an administrator. The other non-administrator account on the machine had no problems, nor did the administrator account. I got some hints from another post on this site, so I looked around for .plist files in ~/Library/Preferences and found the following: com.apple.print.favorites.plist com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist com.apple.print.custompresets.plist The first two did not appear in the Preferences directories of the other accounts. I deleted those two, leaving the custompresets file. Problem solved! I wonder if anyone can explain

Meanwhile I installed Reader 9, but with no luck. If I crank up the preferences I get the error "Failed to load an application resource (internal error)." ... maybe there is something wrong with the installation, but even an reinstall doesnt fix it. If I try to print I get only the message "The document could not be printed" and then "There were no pages selected to print." ... no matter what PDF I try to print. The Apple Preview works without any problems, so the PDFs should be good. Can anyone help me on this ... its really frustrating.
