Go to a forum like Apple Support Forums or Ask Different."An error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." appears during the "install verification" phase of attempts to install Mac OS X. Digging a bit, it turned out that the reason is that when the clock has been reset, this (DRM?) verification fails without specifying the reason. To fix, go into the Terminal and manually set the time to current. The format is date mmddHHMMyyyyThat is, day of month, day, hour, minute, year, e.g.date 040310182013for April 3rd, 2013 at 10:18Also, if this was helpful to you, consider paying it forward by making someone else's day better, making a blog post about something that you had to figure out for yourself, as well, participating in an online group to help oth

on your computer. OS X can't be installed on the disk Macintosh HD because a recovery system can't be created. The installer log shows the message, "Recovery system creation failed with error -69713 (The booter/recovery partition must be grown by a larger amount)." You may be presented with an option to select which disk is the target http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf4TzZt24-M for installation. In some situations, the disk you want to upgrade may be labelled "This disk cannot be used to start up your computer." If possible, back up and reformat the target disk before installing. If you aren't able to back up and reformat, try the following steps to resize the partition where you want to install OS X: Restart your Mac from your usual startup disk. Open Disk Utility, located in /Applications/Utilities/ . Select the disk where https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203482 the volume you intend to upgrade resides. This usually starts with a number representing the total size of the disk. Click the Partition tab. Click and drag the resize corner of your intended install partition to make the size slightly smaller. The blue portion represents used data space. The partition only needs to be approximately 128MB smaller than it was before resizing but it needs to be larger than the blue portion. Example Before: After: Click Apply. When the partition resizing is complete, quit Disk Utility and install OSX. After the OS X installation is complete, you can use Disk Utility to resize the partition back to its original size by dragging the resize corner to make the partition as large as it was before. Tech Tip: ‘An Error Occurred While Preparing the Installation’ Fix Monday, July 6th, 2015 | Author: OWC Robert J. Having worked in Technical Support here at OWC for some time now, I have helped customers handle many different os x types of errors and problems that they have come across. Some such as, “The disk you inserted is not readable by this computer,” might have simple solutions like formatting the disk, and some are more difficult such as “My Mac keeps freezing. Help!”One error that customers often come across while upgrading their machines occurs during the re-installation of OS X, and it has an error occurred a relatively simple fix.Once booted into the recovery partition and selecting “Reinstall OS X”, the “Eligibility Verification” window shows up. The error occurs as soon as you click “continue”. An unspecified error shows up which states "An Error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again." Upon doing so, the same exact error pops up. Nothing has been done to have this occur, so what exactly is going on?While this can be frustrating, something quite simple is going on in the background that needs to be addressed. One of the checks that occur during “Eligibility Verification” is to see what time the machine thinks it is. If the computer is reporting the wrong time, an error will occur. While there is a simple fix, it does require using the Terminal to accomplish. Many users might be wary of the Terminal, feeling like something could break and that it’s something only hackers and System Administrators use. While this can be true, the Terminal can be your friend and help you to resolve quite a long list of issues that commonly occur. But with g

Email * Apple has released a new update for OS X, Version 10.11.3. It’s currently available to be downloaded via the Mac App Store and will require a restart to finally install itself. The update is 662 MB in size and contains numerous fixes for bugs and security vulnerabilities for OS X El Capitan.Apple has switched over to a fast release cycle lately, and have implemented a system that sees a beta version of an operating system being developed, tested and pushed out in a matter of weeks rather than months. This means that major new features in updates have become less common in OS X releases, such as with OS X 10.11.3 which entered into beta status in mid-December and has no major changes.OS X 10.11.4, the next El Capitan update scheduled to be released from Apple, will introduce some new features however. The update includes the ability to share files over iMessage, being able to view Live Photos (taken on an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus) on the Messages app on OS X and being able to password protect the notes app.If you’re trying to update El Capitan to Version 10.11.3, but seem to having a “Update could not be verified” or “Error occurred while preparing the installation” problem, there are a couple things you can try to fix the issue. First, download an alternative copy of OS X 10.11.3 via the Apple Support website and try installing the update that way. There are two versions of OS X 10.11.3 on the Apple Support site, the standalone update (662 MB) and the combo version (1.47 GB).If that doesn’t work, OS X Daily recommends navigating to the Date & Time menu in System Preferences and making sure that “Set date and time automatically” has been checked and is enabled. However, because this menu option requires an internet connection, there is a way of manually updating the OS X clock to the correct time via Terminal. If nothing else works, lament the fact that Ap
