Out Of Range Signal Cannot Display
frogblender Posted by Gustavo Kaufmann on 17 Feb 2013 9:05 So, here's what hapenning: this week, out of nowhere my monitor started showing me this message: "Out of range signal. Cannot dell monitor out of range signal cannot display this video mode display this video mode, change computer display input to 1600x1200 @ 60mhz". Now the real picles in this situation: I've been using this monitor, in this very same settings since 2008 when I first bought it. There's no support for this model anymore as there are no more drivers available in the Dell website. Native Win7 64 driver was working pretty fine untill dell monitor input timing error this week. The only workaround I found so far was unplugging the DVI cable and plugging it back until monitor works again. Restarting the monitor (power button hold for 5 seconds) also works. I've uninstalled the monitor driver and reinstalled it, no success. I'm considering a DVI cable malfunction, even though there's no aparent wear or damage to it. And just for the records, I'm on a Nvidia GTS 250 card and using the latest nvidia driver, and Win7 64bits. So, any ideas on what can be done? Thanks a lot! I swapped cables, DMS59 dongles, and monitors, and the problem followed the DVI cable. Replaced the cable, and it hasn't happened since. Once in Safe Mode, decrease your video card resolution to a resolution that's supported by the monitor. If you've changed the monitor resolution, reboot the http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch001265.htm computer to see if this resolves the issue. If the resolution is supported or following the above steps did not help, we suggest reinstalling the drivers for your monitor and video card http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/external-monitor-out-of-range-ahh-help-plz.251215/ by following the remainder of the steps. In Safe Mode, open the Windows Device Manager. Once in Device Manager, expand the "Display adapters" and "Monitors" sections and remove each of the devices out of listed under those two sections. You can do this by highlighting each device and pressing the delete key. Once the Display adapters and Monitors have been removed, reboot the computer and let Windows reinstall the drivers for these devices. If Windows cannot find the drivers or you need updated drivers for either of these devices, see the computer drivers section. If after following the steps out of range above, your monitor still displays the " Input signal out of range" error message, you may have a bad monitor or bad video card. Try one or both of the following options to determine if the monitor or video card is potentially bad. Connect your monitor to another working computer. If the monitor works on another computer, then your computer potentially has a bad video card. Borrow a working monitor from a friend or family member and connect it to your computer. If that monitor works, then your monitor is likely bad and should be replaced. If that monitor does not work as well, then your computer potentially has a bad video card. After trying the options above, if you find that the issue may be a bad video card, we recommend that you replace the video card or have it professionally repaired. I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit with Nvdia Quadro NVS 140m on a 14.1 inch IBM ThinkPad T61. The monitor connects fine and I can duplicate the image or make separate display out of the original laptop and the additional one. Or I can have laptop off and additional monitor on like the way I usually use it, but as soon as I close the lid on the laptop the screen flickers black in two seconds and the screen goes black, expect for a blue box in the middle which reads Out of Range H frequency 49.7 KHZ and V Frequency 60.0 Frequency. Does anyone know what this means? I also have the latest Nvdia software, driver updates, Windows Updates as well as Vista SP1 installed. I have link to the screen which I am using below. http://www.envisiondisplay.com/products.asp?EPage=products&SMenu=h22w Thanks in advance for the help. integra144, May 18, 2008 #1 dmacfour Are you aware... Reputations: 404 Messages: 1,155 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 55 did you mess with the refresh rate on your external monitor? Thats what it is referring to. Go to Advanced under display settings and make sure that the refresh rate matches what your monitor is rated to display. dmacfour, May 18, 2008 #2 nizzy1115 Notebook Prophet Reputations: 2,557 Messages: 6,682 Likes Received: 1 Trophy Points: 205 Try setting the external monitor as the default monitor in the nvidia settings. nizzy1115, May 18, 2008 #3 integra144 Notebook Consultant Reputations: 0 Messages: 183 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 30 Could you be more specific please. In the monitor display menue on the montior it says 65.2 and 59.9. I then went to the desktop right clicked and ended up in display settings and changed the it to 60. Closed the lid and got the same error. Also my Monitor is set as the default display device. I don't understand why closing the lid to the laptop would effect the monitors display as the laptops screen is off anyway. under monitor settings I only have 59 or 60htz as an option. Also when I start up the computer with the lid closed everything works great till I enter my password, or I gets to the password screen. Forgot the details. integra144, May 18, 2008 #4 nizzy1115 Notebook Prophet Reputations: 2,557 Messages: 6,682 Likes Received: 1 Trophy Points: 205 You
