Solved Constantly Receiving Error ( 0 x 800 421 0A) in Outlook Posted on 2006-01-31 Outlook 1 Verified Solution 18 Comments 1,183 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-05 Hello, Recently, I receive this message 4-5 times a day: ! Task 'myname@mycompany.com - Sending and Receiving' Reported Error ( 0 x 800 421 0A): "The operator timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server adminstrator or Internet Service Provided (ISP) I tried to search on MS's support website, they suggests me to update to Office SP3, which I already did long time ago. Also, I tried to set the server timeout time to 10 minutes, but this error message still keeps coming back. I don't have anti-virus software installed, so I think it shouldn't be caused by that either. By the way, I am using Office XP. Could anyone kindly answer me why I keep receiving this error message, and how to fix it? Many Thanks. use POPFile (1.1.3) Microsoft email accounts (*.live.com SSL) can't use POPFile (1.1.3) Not sure this is POPfile's issue. I think MS changed something. I have always had the occasional error with the 3 MS email accounts, Outlook 2010 and POPfile. But, in the last week or so, it has gone from the occasional error, to 100% failures. Here is the actual error (names changed to protect the... ME!): Task 'MSN-Randyored - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC91) : 'Your e-mail server rejected your user name. Verify your user name for this account in Account Settings. The server responded: -ERR can't https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21717520/Constantly-Receiving-Error-0-x-800-421-0A-in-Outlook.html connect to pop3.live.com:995' If I remove all the "POPFile" configurations from the Outlook settings (going raw - straight to MS with no POPfile) the 3 accounts logons work 100% of the time. I think MS has changed something that broke SSL on MS accounts. I have 2 other accounts that use SSL and they continue to work fine with POPFile. Can this http://getpopfile.org/discussion/1/533 be checked out, duplicated, verified? EDIT: BTW, I have backed up my POPFile data and performed a clean POPFile 1.1.3 install with no data restore. Issue still there in a raw POPFile install. I've just tried using POPFile 1.1.3 to check my Outlook.com account and it failed. Since POPFile 1.1.3 was released there have been several updates to the OpenSSL library POPFile uses to handle SSL connections so I installed the SSL updates from the zip file mentioned in message:1917 and tried again. This time POPFile was able to login to the Outlook.com mail server. sent to me off-line so I thought I would post the question and answer. Mark I appreciate your help earlier to spawn an instance of Outlook to email out of QBase. Spam Profanity Threats/Abuse Inappropriate Virus/Danger Broken Links Other Answer You had me stumped for a bit, but then I recalled that the connection between the email client outlook error 0a (e.g. Outlook) is very sensitive to special characters. I don’t know what all the bad ones for usre (but I think that they are % & # " ). If you have one of those babies in the headings – such as your Phone # heading or even if you have that in your data, the “processing” of the filling of the body of the screen will just stop dead at that point. So, removing that # from your heading phone # will fix the problem. Perhaps a more diabolical problem is how to remove potentially bad characters from your data. For example you have a field called [COMMENTS]. If your user enters something like “Always call him at his mobile #”, the email will mysteriously fail. I had that problem once so I did a formula to assume that a user would not have more than 4 of these special characters and parse out the text to remove the offending characters. My formula is below and I have highlighted that section. When I went back to my formula that is still being used in my application, I found that I had helpfully commented to myself about a tricky syntax issues with how to put a quote in quotes using the backsla
