SEND: `telnet smtp.live.com 587`. I am connected. SEND: ` HELO blu169.mail.live.com`. RECEIVE: `250 BLU0-SMTP371.phx.gbl Hello [IP ADDRESS]`. SEND: ` MAIL FROM: myemail@outlook.com` RECEIVE: `530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first` What kind of a STARTTLS command must I enter? Are there other commands in the next few commands that I must enter that deviate from the basic protocols of sending an email using telnet? Thank you. email outlook smtp telnet starttls share|improve this question edited Jul 10 '13 at 7:09 Andrzej A. The offered authentication methods are NOT secure over unencrypted "open internet" SMTP connection. So the message means: You must issue a STARTTLS command to be able to issue required AUTH command. share|improve this answer answered Jul 10 '13 at 7:19 Andrzej A. Filip 5,2883930 The command you are being instructed to issue is, simply, STARTTLS. However, this command initiates an attempt to encrypt the communications stream, so if you really are using telnet to perform a manual SMTP transaction, you aren't really going to be able to. –This isn't my real name Jul 15 '13 at 19:58 add a comment| Did you find this question interesting? properly. As the reports say that Outlook Error 0x800CCC78 is counted as most typical error while working with Microsoft Outlook. This error message notifies about the wrong inputs of the outgoing sever detail. Remember, this error does not impact upon incoming of Outlook messages. If you will search over the internet about this error, then you will find that most of Outlook users have stated that in such circumstances they are able to receive emails rather than sending messages. Outlook Error 0x800cc78 - Two http://www.outlookfilerecovery.com/outlook-error-0x800cc78.html Different Causes & Resolutions Cause1: ISP or Internet Service Proivder defines port values for the synchronizing of networks in a domain and through which sending or receiving of data could be possible. Likewise, to transfer emails from Outlook we used some port numbers and 25 port is default which has found as most usable port number. But, this goes wrong when ISP blocked this port number and changes it to another one for a domain. Outlook Error 0x800CCC78 is caused when 25 port number gets blocked by ISP and 587 is enabled in place of it. Resolution 1: Open“Outlook”click on“Tools”menu and after that“Email Accounts”. Now click “View or change existing email accounts”option and then click“Next”button. Click“Email Account”then“Change”button. After that Click“More setting”button. Then“Advanced”tab. In“Outgoing Mail (SMTP) box type 587”. Click“Ok”>> then“Next”>> then“Finish”button. Cause 2: Outlook Error 0x800CCC78 also raises up due to missed authentication on outgoing server settings. Non-authenticated outgoing details do not allow emails to move further on the network and stop it from where it was actually started (email client-Outbox). So, always ch
