553, or relay-prohibited error when sending e-mail messages Applies To: Outlook 2007, Less Applies To: Outlook 2007 , More... Which version do I have? More... Symptom When you are away from home and send an e-mail message using your home e-mail account, your e-mail message might be returned with a 550, 553, or relay-prohibited error message. The same situation could occur when you are away from your office and try to send an e-mail message using your work e-mail account. Summary Relaying occurs when an e-mail message is sent to an e-mail address whose domain (the name after the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2010-outlook/server-error-553-sorry-that-domain-isnt-in-my-list/ef4681ee-6f1f-406f-bf48-00617245bfc8 @ symbol, such as adatum.com) is not processed by the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) or outgoing server that the sender is requesting to deliver the message. The SMTP server must connect to another SMTP server to relay the message. When you send an e-mail message that encounters a relay error, your SMTP (outgoing) e-mail server might return your e-mail message with an error message https://support.office.com/en-us/article/I-receive-a-550-553-or-relay-prohibited-error-when-sending-e-mail-messages-65b494a4-0a15-433e-829f-e73651e0245e such as one of the following: The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. murshed, Apr 16, 2003. murshed Guest hi .. well i had this problem and started asking and searching alot to try to find a straight forward answer or solution .. but unfortunately i couldn't find one ! after solving it i thought of opening a thread to make people who are facing this problem aware of the way of fixing it. ---------------- problem: when sending an email from Outlook/ Outlook Express using the one plesk smtp server i get this error whenever i send an email to some domain that is not on my server: 553 sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1) reason of having this problem: this is ( as i beleive ) 9s a very well known operational problem with plesk/qmail/smtpauthorization. i knew that this has been out since 2001. basically it is because plesk default settings for 'mail' is to close relaying (spam), and you certainly don't want to enable it. solution: there are two parts: 1. server side: log to your plesk cp, go to Server>mail, under Relaying choose: authorization is required and tick SMTP and POP3 leave the lock time at 20 Min and then press on SET. server side part is done. 2. outlook side ( as outlook XP): open outlook click on tools > emails accounts choose 'view or change existing email accounts' and click on next choose your existing mail server that is having the problem and click on change click on more settings choose Outgoing Server tag make sure that you tick the following: My outgoing server (smtp) requires authentication and Log into incoming email server before sending email click on OK click Next click Finish and you'r Done! thats it hope you find this thread helpful murshed, Apr 16, 2003 #1 jimroe Guru Messages: 2,067 Just a bit of amplification on Qmail and relaying: It is not simply Plesk's implementation of Qmail closes relaying - Dan Bernstein wrote Qmail so that it is closed to all relaying (unlike Sendmail which inherently is open as originally written, Qmail was written to be closed). It requires a patch to Qmail to open it at all. Plesk incorporates their own version of the patch (relaylock) which is a bit more elegant than the normal opensource version - at least in so far as the Plesk version uses a table in the PSA database to store POP authenticated IP addresses to relay for. Plesk also adds the smtp_auth patch which allows a second authentication scheme - SMTP Authentication (using the POP mail username / password). By default on a new installation of Plesk, neither authentication sche
