Outlook Direct Booking
OWA, POP, and IMAP Clients Question 0 Sign in to vote Ever since I updgraded Outlook from 2003 to 2007, I am no longer able to add or remove resources to or from meetings I've created in my calendar. When I either create a new meeting or open the item in my calendar and delete the meeting, upon sending the Meeting or Cancellation Request to the resource, I receive the error, "The object could not be found. Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting." I never received this error prior to upgrading to Outlook 2007 and I do have access to book meetings with all resources in my Exchange environment. I am however able to copy my meetings into the calendar directly. I have also setup my account on another machine and receive the same problem. I am the only user running Outlook 2007, everyone else is running Outlook 2003 with no problems. The following is my environment: Exchange Server 2003 (version 6.5 build 7638.2 service pack 2) Outlook 2007 (version 12.0.6023.5000) Thursday, October 04, 2007 7:00 PM Reply | Quote All replies 0 Sign in to vote I get same problem. Thursday, November 6, 2014 Outlook Error - Cannot Directly Book a Resource for this Meeting Recently I came across an issue where I could not book a meeting resource in Outlook 2010 with an Exchange 2010 backend. I http://jamesilarionline.blogspot.com/2014/11/cannot-directly-book-resource-for-this.html received the prompt "Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting." I ran the following command... Start, Run, "outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy" which fixed the issue for me. · Work We are currently in the tail end of an Exchange 2003->2010 migration. All has gone incredibly well so far, so I was a bit surprised when the CIO's PA was suddenly unable to book http://www.wasabi2k.com/?p=5 a meeting, instead receiving a pop up box with the incredibly helpful error: "Cannot directly book a resource for this meeting". So some background. We are using Direct Booking, that is adding resources to Meeting invites and receiving a pop up confirmation when booked. The rooms are all configured as Resource Mailboxes with a Resource Attendant enabled. Our clients are a mix of Outlook 2007 and 2010. We have enabled Direct Booking outlook error in Outlook 2010 using the MS supplied ADM. Everything has been peachy up till now. What I tried: 1. Lots of Googling! 2. Repairing Outlook Profile 3. Messing with mailbox permissions (Full Access, Publishing Editor on Calendar) 4. Trying with another user (worked fine) 5. Enable Cached Mode - this worked, but it appears it just disables Direct Booking and uses the new Resource Booking methods (which send confirmation emails when outlook error cannot a booking is accepted). Some more research pointed the finger at Public Folder access. My stores were all present and mounted and working fine, but when in Folder View in Outlook 2010 as the affected user, they were unable to open the Public Folder Store. The user received an error along the lines of "Cannot open the folders". Very odd. In the end I gave up and deleted their Outlook Profile (I had to launch the Mail Control Panel applet using command line - control mlcfg32.cpl) and recreated it. Bingo. Public Folders work. Direct Booking works. Issue resolved.
