Applications Desktop Integrator; version 11.5.9, occurring on any platform. The issue here is regarding an inability to start ADI because of ORA-12571 intervening, as following: Logon to ADI fails with ORA-12571:TNS:packet writer failure ADI->Signon->Enter username/password The cause of ORA-12571 is stated to be a problem with the Oracle operation interfering with other applications, such as an anti-virus application, "panda antivirus is installed on the same machine that prevented ADI to work." The solutions are given below, and may be used to troubleshoot the resolution of ORA-12571: 1. Disable / Remove Panda antivirus. 2. Start ADI again or re-install ADI if the issue persists. Or install ADI on a machine where no other software i.e. 3rd party software is installed. .. Technically, this is not an ADI issue, it is SQL*Net (i.e. 8) issue that ADI uses. It is more common with the Discoverer product which is al

The error is recorded when oracle attempts to reply back to the session with the results of the dml and cannot access the session. Overall database operations are usually not affected. An ungraceful disconnection could cause by but is not limited to any of the following: - the client machine crashed - the network connection crashed - the user exited the session improperly (not issuing the 'exit' command) - the user application allows the user to exit the application without properly terminating the session. The above can cause problems with corrupted rollback segments if occurring on a regular basis and is not addressed. This would require db

Packet Writer Failure [message #100846] Thu, 25 December 2003 00:25 Denis Dudhia Messages: 3Registered: December 2000 Junior Member I have a D2K / Oracle application. D2K application and Oracle Database are hosted on separate servers. Problem is with one of the PCs with Windows 2000 Professional. I have installed Oracle Forms and Reports Runtime on this PC. Now when I try running the Application, I get an error something like this: "ORA-12571 - TNS: Packet Writer Failure". I tried uninstalling and re-installing Oracle (even removed all the registry entries). But this does not work. Everything is perfect with the Network configuration. Also there are lot of other Windows 2000 Professional Systems that are running the same application properly without any error. Can anyone out there, give me the solution for above stated problem? Junior Member i know this is a month later than you posted, but... oh well. many times i've been able to correct this problem by downloading and running ad / spy detection software (but not always). In the cases where it hasn't worked, unfortunately a reformat has been the fix :( more recently i discovered the "netstat" command. The last couple of times i've seen this error, a persistent http connection has shown up (to a different site both times, but i forgot to look at the two machines i fixed yesterday with ad-aware). it is my belief (but i havent any empirical evidence) that it's this persistent connection that's killing the packets before they go. editing the sqlnet.ora file has never worked for me. also, this shouldn't have to be done if it worked before, then failed, and then oracle was reinstalled. sometimes you'll find ugly connections in your c:winntsystem32driversetchosts file, however. i've even disabled tcp/ip or blown away the whole stack and rebuilt it (though i've never changed a network card in the attempt to fix it), and seen the connection remain. the
