Panasonic Dmr Ex75 U61 Error
U61 Transferring old family videos to DVD. After about 64 successful video transfers, DVD recorder is stuck. It gives error message U61. Unit was purchased Christmas 2007 and is now January 2008 (13 months). Has otherwise performed very well. Based on varous info on various postings, I read about the same situation described by another person. The solution was to open up the DVD case by removing the top cover. The previous individual indicated that the optical read head was stuck. So, individual had moved it (by pushing it with finger) towards back of unit in 'home' position. This had remedied the problem. I went through these steps, and sure enough, my read head appears to be stuck. I pushed it to back of unit, put back together and unfortunately, this did not fix problem. Next I used Qtip and carefully applied sewing machine oil to two guide rails on either side of optical read head. I also worked it back and forth a few times. This seemed to loosen it up. However, this did not fix the problem. I also tried putting in disk and trying to get the unit to read the disk, turning machine on and off (can power down by pressing and holding power button). I can get disk tray to open and close (i.e. eject disk), but cannot get past U61 error. Other people have reported this same problem, and as far as I can tell, have mostly been unable to recover from this problem. I will attempt to upload picture of DVD with top of case removed, and labeled. 1. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? 2. Has anyone got a service manual for the Panasonic DMR-ES46V? Photo caption: A - lateral moving plastic device with white plastic cylindar on top that fits into track onunderneath side of

Clean the dvd spindle with isopropyl alcohol and several cotton buds until the buds come away clean. Do the same for the cap (on the inside of the lid) that rests on top of the spindle if it looks dirty. While you are at it, give the laser lens a GENTLE rub with another clean cotton bud. Be carefully on reassembly the edges of the metal cabinet are SHARP ! After re-assembly and subsequent switch-on insert unformatted Panasonic RAM disc abfpd format it. Leo November 2015 I had the U61 error come up on my tv screen and it just wouldn't disappear not matter what I did. I came on to read everyone's advise and help and found that putting in a blank dvd upside down it came up saying the disc was dirty, then I put it up the right way and it came up saying about getting it formatted. So I took the disc out and put another one in and that solved the whole problem. Thank you so much everyone for your helpful hints.... much appreciated Many Thanks Fiona from

One year and two months is a very short lifetime for a DVD recorder that has been only lightly used, and never abused. logon, Apr 12, 2008 #1 RLC3780 Member Joined: Apr 17, 2008 Messages: 3 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 I'm just curious if you happen to figure out what was wrong with your DVD Recorder. I have the same message on mine and have had problems with TWO Panasonic DVD Recorders that I have purchased over the last year and a half. Please let me know: edited by ddp. Thanks! After going thru four phone transfers I finally reached a fellow who agreed that since I was only a couple of months over warranty, Panasonic will pay the UPS cost to return it to their service center where they will seek out the cause of the problem. Originally he did ask me to try simultaneously pushing down on "channel up" and "channel down" buttons (under the hinged front panel). That's supposed to give the unit a chance to
