Does anyone know what component might have failed. The dvd drive does not make any noise. The machine does not http://www.digitalfaq.com/forum/vcr-repair/6008-panasonic-dmr-es35v.html boot properly, but powers on and off. The tray does not open. VCR part untested. Hard reset performed but it did not help. Could it be the flash chip program is corrupted? Voltage regulators? Thank you. Last edited by rumburaski; 07-26-2014 at 09:27 PM. I quoted this from another site, but it mirrors many other answers eleswhere.Every time the unit is turned on I see "Hello" on the display screen, shortly followed by "U61". The operating instructions say "U61: There was a power failure or the AC plug was disconnected while the unit was on. The unit is carrying out its recovery process. This process restores the unit to normal operation. The unit is not broken. Wait until panasonic dmr-es35v u61 the message disappears." But in my case, after a brief period of "sound blips" I get this message on the TV screen : "Self check failed. Press ENTER, then the unit will open the tray and power off automatically. If this message appears frequently, please refer to the Product Service section in the operating instructions." I've tried unplugging the recorder and after several minutes replugging - doesn't help. I took out the 4 screws holding the DVD drive top in place. And then moved the drive head mechanism back (pushed it towards the back of the unit). I then plugged the power in, turned it on, and amazingly there was no more U61 error. I test the unit this morning again and everything seems to work properly again! Be careful, if you wish to try it, good luck..But, the other choice is seeking service... Ask Your Own Consumer Electronics Question Customer: replied7 years ago. How do I go about removing the 4 screws from holding the top of the DVD drive? Expert: James W replied7 years ago. You must be comfortable opening the case of the Unit itself. Once you get inside (with the power unplugged, of course, the DVD drive will look much like a computer disk drive.then you will have access to the 4 screws of this drrive unit.If you are NOT comfortable doing this, and i

After about 64 successful video transfers, DVD recorder is stuck. It gives error message U61. Unit was purchased Christmas 2007 and is now January 2008 (13 months). Has otherwise performed very well. Based on varous info on various postings, I read about the same situation described by another person. The solution was to open up the DVD case by removing the top cover. The previous individual indicated that the optical read head was stuck. So, individual had moved it (by pushing it with finger) towards back of unit in 'home' position. This had remedied the problem. I went through these steps, and sure enough, my read head appears to be stuck. I pushed it to back of unit, put back together and unfortunately, this did not fix problem. Next I used Qtip and carefully applied sewing machine oil to two guide rails on either side of optical read head. I also worked it back and forth a few times. This seemed to loosen it up. However, this did not fix the problem. I also tried putting in disk and trying to get the unit to read the disk, turning machine on and off (can power down by pressing and holding power button). I can get disk tray to open and close (i.e. eject disk), but cannot get past U61 error. Other people have reported this same problem, and as far as I can tell, have mostly been unable to recover from this problem. I will attempt to upload picture of DVD with top of case removed, and labeled. 1. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution? 2. Has anyone got a service manual for the Panasonic DMR-ES46V?
