Holding down alt-print screen works fine, to just capture a single window. Is there a permanent solution to this? I'd rather not mess with third-party tools. windows-xp multiple-monitors print-screen share|improve this question edited Sep 1 '09 at 1:36 salmonmoose 1,5501014 asked Jul 20 '09 at 20:05 Jeffrey 2,02031936 You might consider adding the tag "multiple-monitors" to your question. I'd do it myself, but http://superuser.com/questions/9513/print-screen-error-with-dual-monitors I don't have enough reputation yet. –tnorthcutt Sep 1 '09 at 1:19 Wow I'm having the same problem but I can get it to paste into Photoshop (CS3), like it's not even grabbing the screenshot. However, Alt-Prnt-Scrn works! And I know I don't have memory issues because I've used the print-screen screenshot (pasted into PS) for years on this same machine--- it used to work not more than a week ago. Probably I just need to reboot? Windows being random again. Or is some clever program disabling this out of spite? Grrr. –Jared Updike Oct 5 '09 at 17:48 Not much help I know, but can you reproduce the error in Safe Mode? That might help rule out graphics driver buffering issues (if you can reproduce the problem, if you can't then that's a possibility...) –Redandwhite Dec 2 '09 at 0:07 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted I had same problem. Reduce harware accel & reduce to 16 bit color. I have an ATI Fire GL V5200 with dual outputs. share|improve this answer answered Aug 11 '10 at 12:53 Patrick 6612 Wow! That fixed it exactly! One notch down on the acceleration, and down to 16-bit color - and it all works perfectly. Thanks!!! –Jeffrey Aug 13 '10 at 14:31 For anyone else's reference: My card is an ATI Radeon Xpress 1150, with dual outputs. –Jeffrey Aug 13 '10 at 14:33 add a

When I use XP's native prtscrn and try to paste it into various programs (paint, paint.NET, GIMP), I get various error msgs ("Error getting clipboard data", or "There is no image data in the clipboard to paste").Interestingly, when I use Screenshot Captor, it successfully shows the thumbnail version, and can save the image to file, but copying the image to the clipboard and trying to paste results in the same error msgs. Sometimes I get an extremely grainy black-and-white version of the screen shot.I have a vague sense this might be a memory issue, because despite having the maximum memory possible installed (on a 32-bit XP install), I do always have a lot of programs running, and (1920x1200x32bits) x dual monitors = lots.Any ideas? davekelly Supporting MemberJoined in 2006 Posts: 6 Re: Can't always copy screenshot to clipboard « Reply #1 on: October 02, 2009, 04:05:15 AM » I also get this problem with ScreenCaptor.I am using Vista SP1, 4 GB RAM and dual monitors.SC reliably captures the screenshot, but when I edit the capture to add any highlighting etc I cannot copy the image to the clipboard.I can copy the text (title and timestamp). mouser First Author AdministratorJoined in 2005 Posts: 36,332 Re: Can't always copy screenshot to clipboard « Reply #2 on: October 02, 2009, 08:54:27 AM » may i ask what method you guys ar
