However, to make a long story short, I was subsequently able to successfully run my System Restore which resolved the problem without having to resort to any of the solutions which either of you suggested. Problem When trying to perform a search, you get the following error: "A file that is required to run search companion cannot be found. You may need to run setup." Solution To resolve this issue, you need to reinstall the Search Companion files: Log on to the computer as an administrator account. Click Start, then click Run. Type "%systemroot%\inf" without quotes and press Enter. Locate the Srchasst.inf file. Right click the file and click Install. Installing Windows Updates can also resolve the issue.
