The weird thing there,

is that there aren't any PCIe cards in the 3 slots. The rightmost (bottom, in the picture) slot however, seems to come out of the board as an expansion of some sort? Could that be a problem? In case I'm missing something really obvious, I've included a shot of the whole system. dell-poweredge pci-express share|improve this question asked Aug 23 '13 at 23:30 JShoe 103114 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted The PCI riser card right in the middle? Yank it out. If your server boots the it's either a bad PCI riser, or the PCI slot has "gone bad". I know there's a not-noobish explanation for that, but I don't remember it. If your server doesn't boot with the riser out the it's time for a new motherboard/server. share|improve this answer answered Aug 24 '13 at 0:12 Sammitch 1,371824 This is correct. Get the riser out of the equation. In my experience, riser cards don't fail too often. It's probably the motherboard. –ewwhite Aug 24 '13 at 0:14 1 @ewwhite the reason I mentioned the PCI slot "going bad" is it seems to happen on every single R200 I've ever wo

We had also tried several power downs, restarts, and removing the newer drive. share|improve this answer answered Sep 11 '11 at 10:19 Scott Szretter 95583255 Any reason why you did not call Dell? –Nils Sep 22 '11 at 21:01 Not in warranty, I was told they will not talk to us if not in warranty? –Scott Szretter Sep 24 '11 at 12:59 That`s a reason, indeed. Perhaps you could mention that next time. –Nils Sep 24 '11 at 19:55 I would add to this that Dell had me TOTALLY take the RAID card out of the box, restart it without the card, shut down again, and put the RAID card back in. Posted on 2011-11-16 Server Hardware Embedded Hardware Hardware 1 Verified Solution 1 Comment 10,167 Views Last Modified: 2012-08-13 I have a Dell Power Edge 1950. When I boot the machine it stops before completing the pcie training POST. It says System Halted. Then it gives the error "PCIe Training Error: Internal Storage Slot" I read different forums online and I have it narrowed down to three cards that are possibly giving the problem to the best of my knowledge. When reading online no one stated which card it is exactly. Most people buy all three cards and replace all three so they do not waste time on the repair. I would to like to know which card it pcie training error actually is rather then order all three and replace all three. I like to know what is actually causing the problem and/or the best way to trouble shoot it. By reading online, the devices that are most likely to cause this error is the PERC5 Raid Controller, the PCI-E Riser Card, or the Backplane Board. Most of the posts said it was not the riser cards but no one took the time to trouble shoot the problem. I removed and reseated the riser cards and got the same results. Your help would be greatly appreciated. If the problem persist, try to completely remove the riser card. Now it should work. In such case, the riser card and the motherboard as well may be damaged. Be Sociable, Share!
