Error:out Of Memory: Permgen Space Android Studio
vote favorite 402 Recently I ran into this error in my web application: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space It's a typical Hibernate/JPA + IceFaces/JSF application running on Tomcat 6 and JDK 1.6. Apparently this can occur after redeploying an application a few times. What causes it and what can be done to avoid it? How do I fix the problem? java exception memory-leaks out-of-memory permgen share|improve this question edited May

See my related question: stackoverflow.com/questions/1996088/… You may still have a memory leak, e.g. classes are not garbage collected because your WebAppClassLoader is not garbage collected (it has an external reference that is not cleared). increasing the PermGen will only delay the OutOfMemoryError, and allowing class garbage collection is a precondition, but will not garbage collect classes if their class loader still has references to it. –Eran Medan Jan 14 '10 at 11:48 I got this error at adding display taglib. Removing so also solved the error. Why so? –masT Nov 14 '13 at 11:51 And how did you run into it? –Thorbjørn Ravn Andersen Feb 25 '14 at 4:16 10 use JDK 1.8 :þ welcome to the MetaSpace –Rytek Mar 20 '14 at 16:25 add a comment| 32 Answers 32 active oldest votes 1 2 next up vote 514 down vote accepted The solution was to add these flags to JVM command line when Tomcat is started: -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled You can do that by shutting down the tomcat service, then going into

have a look at the log, the default for JAVA_OPTS is -Xms128m -Xmx512m, even though I could not permgen space gradle find it set anywhere in run.sh (I can, though, find it in run.bat). I'm planning to increase the maximum memory size to 1024: -Xmx1024m by adding: JAVA_OPTS="-Xms128m -Xmx1024m $JAVA_OPTS" http://stackoverflow.com/questions/88235/dealing-with-java-lang-outofmemoryerror-permgen-space-error My questions are: 1. Is it possible to increase the maximum size of the memory? 2. Why is this option not in run.sh but it is in run.bat? Jaikiran Pai Marshal Posts: 10447 227 I like... posted 9 years ago 1. Is it possible to increase the maximum size of the memory? Yes, its possible. You can add https://coderanch.com/t/90631/JBoss/java-lang-OutOfMemoryError-PermGen-space your heap settings to the run.sh file (for JAVA_OPTS) similar to what you see in the run.bat file. You will have to decide what values are appropriate for your application. [My Blog] [JavaRanch Journal] Ruby Martinus Greenhorn Posts: 6 posted 9 years ago Hi Jaikiran, Thanks for you answer for my first question. I've got the answer to question 2. It is actuallly in run.conf file for Linux/Unix. The problem that I'm having is actually the PermGen space, not the Heap Space. I increased the PermGen space and it is now working fine so far (fingers crossed). Modifying JAVA_OPTS in run.conf file enough or not? Can i increase numbers 512 to 1024 directly or need to add any tags at the end ? Please help me out. Thanks in advance. Sridhar.
