Photoshop Program Error When Saving
the following feedback because I figured out a way to circumvent the error message and still save my file in the edited condition. I got the error message "Could not complete your request because of a program error" when I attempted to save a file that I had edited (it should be noted that at the same time, I had 2 other similar files open that I had also edited for which the error message didn't pop up.) This is precisely what happened: I had finished editing my photograph - I clicked on "Save as" and the error message popped up. So I tried clicking on just "Save" - same error message popped up. So, I clicked on the "X" to close the file - a window popped up to ask me if I wanted to save the changes I'd made - I chose "yes" - and then again, the same error message popped up. (isn't it odd, how a situation like this compels you to scold the computer program; as though it actually can hear you?!!). After inquiring of the program, "So why did you ask me if I wanted to save the changes, when you had no intention of letting me do so?" After that, I ruminated on the situation .... I had spent a lot of time meticulously working on perfecting a colorization of an old black & white photo - and my result was superb, and not only did I not want the hour's work to be unsaved; but

It happened once... then went away. The very next day... I got the same error while trying to open any (and I mean) any file in Photoshop... I'm talking new files or old files, JPEG's, PNG's, TIFF's, etc. I deleted preferences, settings, all of that. Tried booting up without plugs installed, etc. All of the things one would typically go through to photoshop could fix the problem. I even went so far as to remove every single Adobe application from my box (and all of their related support files) and reinstall everything. Exact same error. Then... intermittently... I could open or save files again... just to have it go back to the same problem as before. This was really bugging me. I then decided to try and run Photoshop that was sitting on another workstation via the network... exact same error. But even stranger than this photoshop could not is... that Photoshop that was running PERFECTLY previous to all of this... no longer works either!! It now shows up with the same error. Really, really bizarre. Couldn't find a way to get around it and lost them. I replaced the Preferences file with a backup copy I keep on my desktop and all worked as it should until later in the day when I tried to "save as" a file and got the same message. I tried just "save" and that worked. I don't know what is happening (or why), but hope I don't have to reinstall Photoshop. Sounds like you're really knowledgeable, so if you find a reason (or fix) for the problem, please let me know. I had a similar problem and could not save photos, but only one set from a particular camera. Others were fine. It's not ideal but at least renaming the offending file

This is definitely a bug in Photoshop that is annoying and does not provide much to go off in terms of troubleshooting. While there could be many reasons for this error to occur, one of the common reasons is the PSD you are working with uses a different Type Engine than what your Photoshop is set to operate on. In order to resolve this problem so you can save to the PSD, you would go to Edit / Preferences / Type and change the Type Engine from East Asian to Middle Eastern and restart Photoshop.
