Chris Cox Aug 16, 2012 3:13 PM (in response to mtucker508@mac.com) Usually that means that the file has been corrupted on disk, though sometimes it means that the file has the wrong extension and can't be read correctly. In your case, it sounds like the file was damaged by some sort of system error. Most of the time, the files are not recoverable. 1 person found this helpful Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. I tried to open it in Graphic Converter; it was just white file. Blank. Tried to open it on another machine; same error message. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. I worked on a .psd file all day yesterday on Photoshop 7.0. Today, my computer rebooted itself while I started working on the .psd file. When I tried to reopen the file, I can see the thumbnail in the browse menu. But when I open it, I get this message: Could not open "D:\Ivy\Scanned\TakuKouKou.psd" because an unexpected photoshop cs3 unexpected end-of-file was encountered. When I try other applications that can view .psd files (ACDSee), everything is black. I sent the .psd file (it's about 8 megabytes) to a friend, and he got the same results as I did. I think I was in the midst of saving my progress on the .psd when my comp rebooted itself, but I'm not positive. I just know that I can't view the file at all except for the thumbnail. I run Windows XP, so I tried a System Restore to the yesterday, but then I realized that the System Restore only affects certain programs and not doents such as this .psd file. Is there another way to backtrack what happened to this .psd file? Or some other way to fix this? I spent a long time on this artpiece and starting over will be such a waste... But I'm not sure if it will get solved, because it is more a software issue than a graphic design issue. If I'm being inappropriate, please edit my post. Many thanks. I'm using Photoshop CC (ver 14.2 x64) on a Win7 machine. When I trying to open the PSD file, I get the following messages: "This document contains unknown data which will be discarded to keep layers editable. To preserve the original appearance instead, choose Flatten to load composite data as flattened image" After click either one of the option, it shows: "Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered" I know I had made mistake by cold shut down the computer. I thought when the Photoshop program was closed, the saving was done. But I was wrong. I now understand even if it is closed, Photoshop is still doing background save work. I have learned this lesson and I'll be more careful in the future. But I wanted to know is there a way I can retrieve the PSD file I been working on for days? I noted that I can preview the document when trying to open it with other applications. I've tried some programs and it shows the layers and layers group information correctly. But I cannot afford t
