using XAMPP to develop PHP software (WordPress, Joomla!) on php error log not working OSX you might want to get some advanced logging output from your code. PHP apache php error log provides nice error_log() function, but it is silent by default. Here are short instructions how to enable it and follow the log. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3719549/where-does-phps-error-log-reside-in-xampp Use your favorite editor to edit php.ini file in /Applications/XAMPP/etc/php.ini - sudo priviledges needed, Smultron does it out of the box. Change lines: log_errors = Off ;error_log = filename To: log_errors = on error_log = /tmp/php.log Restart Apache using XAMPP controller in Finder -> Applications. Now https://opensourcehacker.com/2011/03/16/enable-php-log-output-error_log-on-xampp-on-osx/ use the following UNIX command to see continuous log flow in your terminal: tail -f /tmp/php.log See also the earlier article about XAMPP and file permissions. June 2010 23:04 https://community.apachefriends.org/f/viewtopic.php?p=161279 I understand that PHP error logging is off by default in xampp, right? So I tried http://serverfault.com/questions/385935/no-error-log-xampp-virtual-host-config to turn it on by the following entries in C:\xampp\php\php.ini:log_errors = Onerror_log = "C:\xampp\apache\logs\php_error.log"Restarted Apache, but nothing appears in the php_error.log file.Any suggestions?Regards,Arne funkybabeluba Posts: 3Joined: 03. June 2010 12:50 Yes I did. Errors appear php error log on screen, but not in the log file. I also tried to set display_errors = Off, and the errors where not displayed on the screen, as expected (so I'm using the correct php.ini file). BTW, the error file has write permissions for all users, so that's not the problem either.I also tried double backslashes for the file path, but it didn't help.I'm using Windows Vista and the lastest xampp version.JonB wrote:HiI hate to ask the obvious, but did you induce errors in some of your scripts? no errors - no log. funkybabeluba Posts: 3Joined: 03. LOL, I didn't have to induce errors, I had a new script to try to get working! Originally I thought whether vhosts were involved might bear on it, but it doesn't seem to.I'm stumped at the moment.
