I get the following error when I try to connect to pl sql developer download my database. ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified. I am able to use SQLPLUS from the command line to connect to the database, and tnsping returns successfully, but I can't figure out why PLSQL Developer will not work - it's using the right tnsnames.ora file, and the connection string in there is correct because it's the same one that tnsping uses. Anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this? I've looked at other threads about this specific error with no luck. tnsnames.ora ORCL = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MININT-AIVKVBM)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = orcl) ) ) sqlnet.ora SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS) NAMES.DIRECTORY_PATH= (TNSNAMES, EZCONNECT) sqlpus command line image here PLSQL Developer Connection Preferences: image here oracle plsql sqlplus plsqldeveloper tnsnames share|improve this question edited Oct 10 '12 at 19:11 asked Oct 10 '12 at 18:09 ZakTaccardi 3,63732043 Are you sure that PL/SQL Developer is using exactly the sam

I want to pick it up with my newly installed PL SQL Developer on another computer. I have copied the file into ..ORACLE/product/11.2.0/client_32/NETWORK/ADMIN but PL SQL Developer cannot find it. When it starts http://stackoverflow.com/questions/29351187/oracle-pl-sql-developer-cannot-find-my-tnsnames-ora-file it is not showing me any choice of database. In About->i->TNSNames I dont see any lines I have found a number of advices to look for it in Tools->Preferences->Database->..., but I dont have a Database tab in my preferences. How can I fix it? plsqldeveloper tnsnames share|improve this question asked Mar 30 '15 at 16:17 MiamiBeach 7531818 Once I had the same problem. I found, that my PLSQL Developer had one more file tnsnames.ora in a program folder (the same folder, where file plsqldev.exe is situated). Make sure that it is not your case. –Dmitry Mar 30 '15 at 18:23 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote I had the same problema, but as described in the manual.pdf, you have to: You are using an Oracle Instant Client but have not set all required environment variables: PATH: Needs to include the Instant Client directory where oci.dll is located TNS_ADMIN: Needs to point to the directory where tnsnames.ora is located. NLS_LANG: Defines the language, territory, and character set for the client. Regards share|improve this answer answer
