In the window that opens (Services) look for "Print Spooler" on the right Right-click "Print Spooler" and select "Properties". Click on the "Recovery" tab and change all 3 drop-down boxes to "Restart The Service". Make sure the 2 text boxes underneath say "1" in them. Click Ok until you are back at the Services window, close it and you're good to go. Go back into the properties of the "Print Spooler
when ever he rebooted or even tried to open up the Windows XP printers screen he would get a message that "The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly." If I looked print spooler not running xp in the Windows services applet the Print Spooler service was stopped. If I tried to print spooler not working xp start it, it would start but as soon as I tried to look at the installed printers or try to print from reinstall print spooler xp any application it would give me the same error again. In the Windows Event log I found many Event ID 7031 errors.I did come across a windows kb article that sounded somewhat similar but it didn't https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/252754-print-spooler-constantly-stopping help in my case. The solution I found was fairly simple:First I needed to stop the spooler service (which was already stopped and would not start ayway)Second I opened up a Windows Explorer window and browsed to C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS. I simply deleted all the files in this folder.Once this was done I could start the print spooler service and everything worked again. This worked for me on a Windows XP pro machine so I am not http://itfixed.blogspot.com/2009/11/it-fixed-it-for-me-event-id-7031-source.html sure if it will work for Windows Vista or Windows 7. If anyone tries this on those operating systems please let me know if it worked by posting a comment. Apparently it had to do with an application that sent a print job to the spooler that got corrupted or was not in the correct format. As usual this may not be the only way to remove the software but "It Fixed It for me"For more ItFixed It for Me articles please click here. Odd, since I have a printer installed. So I went to my Printers & Faxes, and it showed none (not even the pdf printer or XPS Document Writer, etc). I click Add a Printer and it says that my print spooler is stopped. I'm running XP Home SP3. I've done loads of searching and tried everything I can find: - I go over to services.msc and restart the print spooler, it says it's starting, and then that it's running. Nonetheless, if I try to add a printer I get "Operation could not be completed." - I've run sfc /scannow - Event viewer shows lots of Service Control Manager error 7031, which states: "The Print Spooler service ter
Hopefully my documented experiences will help others have an easier time in their hobbies. Thursday, 1 March 2012 Fixing Windows 7 Print Spooler crashing constantly (Event ID: 7031) I got bitten by an irritating bug Microsoft introduced in some update during 2011 which causes the print spooler of Windows 7 64-bit (Home Premium and Xerox Phaser 6140DN network printer in my case, reported to do so on otherflavoursof Windows 7 and other printer manufacturers especially HP and Epson as well.) Symptoms observed are: Printer stops responding Network printers vanish from the Start -> Devices and Printers dialogue Event viewer will report in System evenlog continuous crashes (ID 7031) whenever the print spooler restarts (ID 7036) At least Xerox drivers cannot be reinstalled because the print spool service is down The print spooler service can be started and will promptly crash within seconds of restart Mostly you get direction to run the Microsoft PrinterFix-itutility, which does absolutely nothing to this problem. Other suggested remedies are tweaking the registry which is printer manufacturer specific and might work for you or not. What works for me, though does not remove the problem permanently (it hasreoccurred once for me and being fixed with the instructions below both times) is presented below: Clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service 1. Click the Start Button, type "Services" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 3. Click Stop and click OK. 4. Click the Start Button, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window, and delete all files in this folder. If you're not running with Administrator privileges you will be prompted to take control of the directory bef
