Are DLL Files? DLL ("dynamic link library") files such as localspl.dll are small programs, similar to EXE ("executable") files, which allow multiple software programs to share the same functionality (eg. printing). For example, let's say you are running Windows and editing a document in Microsoft Word. The DLL file that controls printing does not need to load unless it's function is needed - eg. you decide to print the print spooler failed to load a plug in module tpvmmon dll your document. When you select "Print", Microsoft Word calls the printer DLL file, and it is loaded into memory (RAM) at that time. If you want to print a document in another program, Adobe Acrobat for example, that same printer DLL file will be used as well. Why Do I Have DLL Errors? Because they are shared files, DLL files exist outside of the software application itself. Although this provides many benefits for software developers, this separation also provides an opportunity for problems to occur.Quite simply, if Windows cannot properly load your localspl.dll file, you will encounter an error message. Please see "Causes of localspl.dll Errors" below for more information. When Do DLL Errors Occur? DLL errors, such as those associated with localspl.dll, most often occur during computer startup, program startup, or while trying to use a specific function in your program (eg. printing). I've been at this for 3 full days. The problem is basically the Print Spooler keeps shutting off. I've done all the basics (i.e. set startup to automatic, subsequent failures, etc...). In the event log, there are 5 error codes the persistently show up that are the cause, but I don't know how to go about fixing them. They are: Error Service Control Manager 7031 The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 14 time(s). I have a print spooler user in our office with a Dell Optiplex 980 running Windows 7 (32-bit) who suddenly lost connection to all her networked printers (HPs and Xerox). 2. When you go to Devices and Printers, none of the networked printers appear (she does not have any local printers) and click "Add Printer" an error message: "Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart print spooler error the machine." 3. I've restarted the spooler by using net start spooler and it is this service set to Automatic and to retry 2X if there is a failure. 4. Immediately upon clicking "Add Printer" the service drops and the error message already mentioned appears again. The event viewer show error messages related to this: A) The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module localspl.dll error code 0xc1. This can occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources. B) The print spooler service terminated unexpectedly. Things done: 1) I've cleared out system32\spool\printers\*.* 2) I've compared the configuration of the print spooler of this computer with my own in the office (I have same model, operating system, etc) and they are identical (including HTTP and RPC dependencies. 3) The local company that supports our network has spent about an hour or two troubleshooting and have replaced the spoolsv.exe with a clean copy. This made no difference and they are stumped. 4) I attempted to add a printer through the Add Printer Wizard; same error message as if adding manually through Devices and Printers. 5) I've compared the versions of spoolsv.exe and localspl.dll on this computer with my own and I found that the spoolsv.exe files between the two machines match (same
