Based on my research, Event ID 7031 indicates printer spooler crashes, this issue is caused by third party printer component such as print monitor, print processor after installing Office 2010. Please go to C:\Windows\System32, find all the printer .DLL files and rename them to old.dll files. Then restart the spooler service. in some update during 2011 which causes the print spooler of Windows 7 64-bit (Home Premium and Xerox Phaser print spooler service stops automatically in windows server 2012 r2 6140DN network printer in my case, reported to do so on otherflavoursof Windows 7 and other printer manufacturers especially HP and Epson as well.) Symptoms observed are: Printer stops responding https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/39a53cd5-7827-4833-88b5-68e5b25d54a0/network-printer-keeps-stopping-the-spooler-event-id-7031-windows-7-enterprise-edition?forum=w7itprohardware Network printers vanish from the Start -> Devices and Printers dialogue Event viewer will report in System evenlog continuous crashes (ID 7031) whenever the print spooler restarts (ID 7036) At least Xerox drivers cannot be reinstalled because the print spool service is down The print spooler service can be started and will promptly crash within seconds of restart Mostly you get direction http://rtrialnerror.blogspot.com/2012/03/fixing-windows-7-print-spooler-crashing.html to run the Microsoft PrinterFix-itutility, which does absolutely nothing to this problem. Other suggested remedies are tweaking the registry which is printer manufacturer specific and might work for you or not. What works for me, though does not remove the problem permanently (it hasreoccurred once for me and being fixed with the instructions below both times) is presented below: Clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service 1. Click the Start Button, type "Services" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. 2. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. 3. Click Stop and click OK. 4. Click the Start Button, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window, and delete all files in this folder. If you're not running with Administrator privileges you will be prompted to take control of the directory before you are shown the contents of it. Or if you can make a new shortcut on your desktop to CMD.EXE and right click the icon and select 'Run as Administrator...' since you need admin privileged to delete the spooler files. Then CD %WINDIR%\system32\spool\ DEL printers\*.* An

Can't add Printer because the Spooler service can't be started Started by ddibowski , Oct 28 2014 02:39 PM Please log in to reply 14 replies to this topic #1 ddibowski ddibowski Members 151 posts OFFLINE Gender:Male Local time:07:08 AM Posted 28 October 2014 - 02:39 PM I am using a Dell Inspiron 531with Windows Vista Home Premium SP2. I have a Cannon MP470. The printer stopped working. It is not In Control Panel - Printers. When I try to add the printer I get the message "Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." When I try to restart the Print Spooler service I get the message "Windows could not start the Print Spooler service on Local Computer. Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly." The Print Spooler service is set to Automatic and Start. I tried restarting the computer. The Print Spooler service does not start. I can see the printer in Devices under Imaging Devices. I Disabled it and Enabled it. This did not help. I have unhidden all files in Windows Explorer. I tried to delete the files in \windows\system32\spool\printers but did not find any fi
when ever he rebooted or even tried to open up the Windows XP printers screen he would get a message that "The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly." If I looked in the Windows services applet the Print Spooler service was stopped. If I tried to start it, it would start but as soon as I tried to look at the installed printers or try to print from any application it would give me the same error again. In the Windows Event log I found many Event ID 7031 errors.I did come across a windows kb article that sounded somewhat similar but it didn't help in my case. The solution I found was fairly simple:First I needed to stop the spooler service (which was already stopped and would not start ayway)Second I opened up a Windows Explorer window and browsed to C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\PRINTERS. I simply deleted all the files in this folder.Once this was done I could start the print spooler service and everything worked again. This worked for me on a Windows XP pro machine so I am not sure if it will work for Windows Vista or Windows 7. If anyone tries this on those operating systems please let me know if it worked by posting a comment. Apparently it had to do with an application that sent a print job to the spooler that got corrupted or was not in the correct format. As usual this may not be the only way to remove the software but "It Fixed It for me"For more ItFixed It for Me articles please click here.
