Canon Ufr Ii Printer Driver 64 Bit
UFR II printer driver and why might I use it in preference to another type? up vote 17 down vote favorite 3 A new printer recently showed up at work. There are an abundance of possible drivers for it applicable to my system (Windows 7, 64 bit) including PCL5, PCL5e, PCL6 and UFR II. I'm familiar with PCL, but not UFR II, although the ever-helpful Wikipedia told me it stands for "Ultra Fast canon ufr ii printer driver mac mountain lion Rendering". What (if anything) is the advantage of using the UFR II driver over one of the PCL variants? windows-7 drivers 64-bit printer share|improve this question asked Jan 25 '12 at 17:18 Richard J Foster 2572514 add a comment| 6 Answers 6 active oldest votes up vote 12 down vote accepted UFR II is the 2nd version of UFR... which stands for "Ultra Fast Renderer". In short... it's similar to PCL in concept... but alien in the actual instructions. Most commonly associated with Canon printers. PCL is more generic, common, and simple, but antiquated... UFR II is better designed, and faster, but not anywhere near as common. If you have a printer and driver that both are geared towards UFR II... use it. If not... PCL is a lot more forgiving. share|improve this answer answered Jan 25 '12 at 17:37 TheCompWiz 6,7101217 You're right that it's a Canon printer. :-) It says UFR II, and has an official driver, so I guess I'll give it a try. Thinks for confirming it was what I suspected. –Richard J Foster Jan 25 '12 at 18:52 I've been looking for a good driver for a big Canon ImageWriter 3225. Canon's Generic PCL 6 would not let me use the 11x17 paper in the bottom tray.

As a relative newcomer to CUPS I found this tidbit of crucial information lacking in all the documentation to set-up this Canon Enterprise Printer. Hopefully this could be helpful to users of any number of Linux flavors and/or printer persuasions. Installed a Canon imageRunner Advanced (iR-ADV C5030) using the UFR-II drivers I http://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4859 found here:http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents ... 70808.htmlI downloaded the file: Linux_UFRII_PrinterDriver_V230_uk_EN.tar.gz, and followed the included instruction manual to install as cups printer. This worked fine and I could serve the printer to all the windows systems on the network once the proper client drivers where installed on the workstations. However, when I tried to print from the CentOS6 server itself I would receive the following error:"pstoufr2cpca write error,9." in the "State" column on the completed jobs page in the CUPS http://localhost:631 UI and nothing would print. No matter how I tried printing; from application or command line it was the same error. It turns out I was missing PS support. So I installed Gutenprint with the following command:yum install gutenprint-foomaticNow I can print from within server itself too. It's the little things...
