you cuss me out, and please think it over before you reply. You didn't lose $149, because you did get some use out of the printer. If you look at your average cost of ownership based on your original purchase price, without figuring in how much you spent on the extra ink, you spent $7.15 per month for the printer. If I assume the extra ink cost you $80, then your average cost of ownership was under $11 per month. So put it in perspective, if you rented or leased a machine it would cost you a lot more than that, http://www.laserprinterservices.com/hperrorcodes.html and you'd still have to buy ink. When you buy a cheap machine, and $150 is cheap for a multifunction, then you should expect two years service at best, and if it fails at 13 months that's what you paid for.My advice is to check and see if you have a credit card that doubles manufacturers warranties, many VISA cards do, and buy your computers, etc. using it. Then put http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/23050 the receipt in an envelope and tape it to the cover of the machine.People who bought the HP OfficeJet V40's when they cost $250 got several years of service from their machines, many are still running. Then HP got competitive with Brother, et al, and made a cheaper V40 that sold for about $150, and most of them failed after about 13 months of use.In short, when we demand cheap machines, and only buy cheap machines, then the OEM's are going to make cheap machines to keep us happy.Stephen by Stephen on Sep 3, 2005 at 8:33pm Add comment Please sign in to comment interesting philosophical debate. I agree with your general theory sincet we purchased a $200 machine with the belief that it would work perhaps for a 18, maybe 24 months, only to come to the quick and sad realization that we bought a piece of crap from an un-ethical company... I bought into the local advertising hype about Brother office equipment and "projected" that image onto the home-office equipment... bad move on my part. I bought the new MFC in late November, and here it is, not even 8 weeks later and the machine has succumbed to the dreaded "error -41". It di
out of the blue. I've browsed the Internet, and read articles, and it seams as if this message is quite frequent with the Brother MFC series. And it always begins without notice, and just starts without you http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/posts/23088 doing anything. Does anything know what this error message (Error 41) means, and is there a way to fix it myself, without having to bring in the repair men? If you have any tips, please e-mail me: [emailprotected] or simply reply. Is there any light anyone can shed on the situation? I appreciate your help. Thanks! Steven Respond to this 2 Here is the soloution. Go buy a new model 5xxx or something at about 120 dollars. printer error Take the new printhead and put in the 3100 and the old in the 5xxx machine. Return the 5xxx and you will have a new printer for free. It may not be ethical but what Brother has done to us with error 41 we are equal. This is the second Brother that has done this just after a year old. I would like to see the look on their faces when they get it back and see the 41.2 printer error old printhead. by unknown on Oct 22, 2004 at 9:16am Add comment Please sign in to comment I like your thinking and the solution to a dumb problem. I have a Brother 5100C and I think it needs a new print head. I can't get Red to print no matter what I do, like put in new Brother cartridges.Any suggestions on how to solve this problem? Many thanks and keep up the good thinking,Rod06 - Anonymous Brother is a crook, I have a Point of Sale system that runs on NT and only accepts a parrallel port connection.I have purchased 3 yes 3 3100 MFC( Mother F'n C'sucker) in the last 3 years and all 3 have done the same. Now I can't find one.I will never buy brother again. - Anonymous 1 Here is the soloution. Go buy a new model 5xxx or something at about 120 dollars.
