When I print some PDFs on my HP 4050 or 8000 printer, including some

PDFs that I created using Adobe Distiller 5.0 using the default "Print" job option (Acrobat 4.0(PDF 1.3) Compatibility), I have the 79.00 FE PRINTER ERROR. My systems support person says that this Compatibility thing is eqivalent to PostScript Level. And our HP 8000 and HP 4050 laser printers do not support PostScript 3; they support only PostScript 2. Because I hp 79 service error create the PDFs using 4.0 Compatibility (same as PostScript Level 4?), I am not going to be able to print them on these printers. However, they can be printed on HP 4100, which supports PostScript 3 (even though not Compatbility/PostScript 4). Now my Distiller 5.0 (presumably any higher version too) does not support anything lower than Compatibility 3.0 - it cannot create a PDF of Compatibility 2.1 for example. Now, is Adobe so stupid that it removes this PostScript 2 support from Distiller such that the PDFs it creates cannot be printed on certain printers? Any cure? Any comment? I read http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/reference/errorcodes/h... but it does not really help. for the 79.00FE error as displayed on a HP 8100dn printer, however, I understand that this can also apply to the 5Si, 8000, 8150 series printers. When this error is encountered, the printer will become unresponsive, but may

still be accessible via the web GUI. 79.00FE usually means a that the jet-direct card is receiving information that

it cannot interpret (PDF files seem to often be the culprit). Here is some documentation to back up that claim HP's 79.00FE Troubleshooting hewlett packard Guide. If my quick fixes don't work, be sure to review it. Quick Solutions: 1) Turn off the HP printer. Hold down the green ‘GO' button, then power the printer back on. The moment "Cold Reset" is displayed http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/11377-2-remove-00fe-error-message on the printer, you may release the ‘GO' button. Wait. Printers are slow. Even if it looks like it's come back online- continue to wait. If you're lucky, this will fix your problem. 2) If it still displays the error, unplug the network connection, and repeat step 1 (power cycle with a cold reset). If the error comes back, even after you've removed network connections, then you may have a corrupted firmware, or a dying jet-direct card, refer to http://rzfeeser.com/2012/06/14/fix-solution-for-hp-8100dn-printer-79-00fe-error/ the HP 79.00FE Troubleshooting Guide. If the error does not return, plug the network connection back in. Within a matter of moments, you should see the 79.00 error return. In this situation, it is likely that someone has a ‘poisoned' document stuck in their printer queue. In my case, a PDF from a Gmail attachment was stuck in a Dell laptop's printer queue. Oftentimes these documents persist even after reboots, so it's important you actually examine each print queue. If you're in a large organization, tracking down the offender might be a problem- Wireshark might be a good start. Get your Network Admin geek to clear 'the print queue' for that printer. The geek should know what you mean. Once the queue is cleared, then re-install the netcard, connect the cables and power up the printer. If you get the same problems, then I'm afraid it is a formatter change.RegardsTrev by unknown on Mar 15, 2007 at 1:02pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 Trev,The JetDirect can cause 79 errors, so if the printer works with it removed and fails with it installed then it still might be the JetDirect. The 4050TN would have shipped with either a JetDirect 600N or 605N, I'm not sure which, it's possible that a 615N is installed. The 79 error is one of the known issues with the 615N.If the card happens to be a 615N HP is still sending free replacements. by Stephen on Mar 15, 2007 at 2:12pm Add comment Please sign in to comment 0 I hear what you say, Stephen but..... if a fully operating netcard, on power up. and while initialising, gets a load of garbage (thats stuck in the print queue) sent to it, it will have a 'stroke' and (normally) give a 49.xxxx error. If the garbage is removed from the print queue BEFORE power up and doesn't cause a 49
