Resolving the problem This document contains information on configuration settings and error messages for *LAN 3812 SNMP device descriptions. The term SNMP refers to Simple Network Management Protocol. SNMP allows for two-way communication with the printer when attached to the LAN using a print server that also supports printer error message filter failed SNMP. *LAN 3812 SNMP device descriptions have become a popular and recommended alternative to using Remote Output Queues, which use LPR/LPD. This is also an alternative to using *LAN 3812 PJL device descriptions, which are only supported for laser printers and print servers that support HP's PJL (Printer Job Language) protocol. *LAN 3812 SNMP device descriptions are similar to *LAN 3812 PJL device descriptions and as such they fully support the page range function. For information on configuration and limitations of *LAN 3812 SNMP device descriptions, refer to the following Rochester Support Center knowledgebase document: N1019572: Configuring a *LAN 3812 SNMP Device Description The success of this connection is dependent on the configuration settings in IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS and the printer. The TCP/IP network also has an effect on performance and starting of the printer writer. The follo

descriptions end periodically with message CPA403D - Operator action required on device &4. This most often occurs with *LAN 3812 PJL and *LAN 3812 SNMP printer device descriptions; however, https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1019570 it can also occur with other *LAN 3812 DEVDs, including *LAN 3812 LEXLINK DEVDs, *LAN 3812 IPP DEVDs, and *LAN 3812 DEVDs that use the LPR Print Driver (TSPLPRD) utility. This document was last updated on 4 April 2014. Technote documents N1019652 and N1019570 state the following information concerning message CPA403D: CPA403D "Operator action required on device &4 (C R)" http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas8N1018688 This indicates that user intervention is requested on the printer (such as out of forms, paper jam, and so on). For the R410 operating system and above, change the printer device description so the Printer error message (PRTERRMSG) parameter is set to *INFO instead of *INQ. For the R370 the operating system, change the printer device description so the first User-Defined Options (USRDFNOPT) parameter is set to ERRMSGINFO. Changing the PRTERRMSG from *INQ to *INFO will cause either message CPI404F "Problem with device &1" or message CPD337F "Remote device rejected an attempt by the writer to open a connection" to be issued as an informational message rather than of getting CPA403D as an inquiry message, depending on the version and PTF level on your system. Since you will no longer be getting an inquiry message whenever user intervention is requested on the printer, you will not have to answer a message operating system to get printing to continue once the error condition on the printer has been resolved. The writer will continue to contact the prin
messages is CPA3394: Load form type '&4' device &5 writer &1 (with &4, &5, and &1 referring to parameters that http://www.itjungle.com/tfh/tfh031703-story04.html are passed in with the message). This message is generated after a writer is restarted because of an IPL, a printer error, or any other time a printer is https://www.kyoceradocumentsolutions.eu/index/service/Technical_Support/faq/faq_details.L3ByaW50ZXJfbXVsdGlmdW5jdGlvbmFscy9mYXEvYXNfNDAwX19wcmludGVyX2luc3RhbGxhdGlvbg~~.html reset. CPA3394's job is to prompt you to load paper that has a form type matching the spool file output that OS/400 is sending to that printer. For a printer error lot of OS/400 printers--including barcode printers, green-bar printers, and even regular laser printers that are dedicated to printing one type of form, such as packing lists--replying to CPA3394 can be a waste of time, because the proper paper is usually always loaded when the writer comes up (unless the printer is out of paper, which produces another printer error message inquiry message, CPI4020). You don't load multiple form types on these printers, because they are only used to print one specific type of form. CPA3394 can even cause a delay in processing, because required forms may not print until an operator answers the message. Fortunately, there's a way to automatically answer CPA3394 messages without human intervention. This technique uses an OS/400 construct called the system reply list, which can automatically enter responses for specifically defined inquiry messages. For printer writers started with the Start Printer Writer (STRPRTWTR) command on my OS/400 V5R1 machine, I've found that I can set up system reply list entries to automatically answer CPA3394 messages and immediately start printing, using whatever stock is loaded when the printer is restarted. Here's how I do it on my V5R1 machine (this technique may need some slight modifications when running on other OS/400 versions): This technique works best for printer writers that are defined through OS/400 devices and started through the STRPRTWTR command. It hasn't been tested for remote w
